NFL blackouts
Why is the Panthers at Patriots game blacked out in Hawaii? It isn’t being shown on any local channels and is blacked out on the NFL channel, even though it appears on the guide.

The NFL decides what games are blacked out not DTV or any other providers.

But DTV creates the Guide. It shouldn’t be advertised on 212 if it’s not going to be broadcast.

DIRECTV has no control over what is ‘advertised’ so to speak. They get the guide information from the specific channel and cannot alter it to function for your benefit.

DTV buys the guide like most providers do from a third party guide maker.

Maybe so, but I bet there are plenty of football fans recording nothing but blank programs because the NFL and DTV choose not to put their brains together and fix the issue. This could probably be fixed by some suits telling techs to flip some switches.

Per the TOS you are limited to binding arbitration.

Nothing but excuses and unsatisfactory answers here. With today’s tech, the issue is fixable.

My neighbor has the NFL channel on Spectrum cable. He checked. He has the Panthers at Patriots on right now.

That likely indicates the game being blacked out for you was an error. I hope you realize you are conversing with other customers, not Directv support. There is nothing anyone here can do about Directv incorrectly blacking out a game. We see complaints all the time about improper blackouts of games, so whoever is controlling what is blacked out where often makes mistakes. Just to be sure, have you verified the zip code your receiver is set to?

The guide shows what is being played where. It was never designed to be customer specific, such as adjusting for blackouts. That is not just the NFL, but all sports. This is the same with other TV providers as they just deliver the channel and guide as given to them, they don't control the content of it.
With the NFL, you watch on the NFL Sunday Ticket or a local channel. In some cases that may mean using a regular over-the-air (OTA) antenna if DirecTV doesn't carry the specific channel it is on.
If your neighbor is watching the game on the exact same channel you receive that it is blacked out on, then that suggests a blackout error. Try refreshing your service authorizations www.directv.com/refresh and see if that kicks it through (possibly with a red button reset). After that you would need to speak with DirecTV official support to see if they can do a restart of service on their end or have more details on a possible known issue.
This is a public forum of other customers so all we can do is provide information and guidance. We cannot access the service to fix the issue if there is an error. However, suits telling techs to flip some switches is a complete lack of understanding on how this all works. The digital age is more complex, especially when it is data fed from another company that DirecTV has no influence on.
