PBS Channel Unavailable

Channel 28 WJSP Columbus GA is our local PBS station we have watched for years through Directv. A month ago it became unavailable, with error 721 and information for subscribing. I have spent literally hours and hours on the phone with Directv support and no technical glitch can be found. WJSP confirms they are still a free channel in the Directv lineup. I am at wits end and very close to ending my Directv subscription on the principle of the thing.

@nabukl

As in the DMA for it may have changed? That would be unfortunate as then DirecTV would no longer be allowed to provide them that exact local. Though if that is the case, one would hope another PBS is now-in market to replace it.

According to the channel's own website, they still serve their area.

Areas Served

    • Butler,
    • Carrollton,
    • Columbus,
    • Forsyth,
    • Griffin,
    • Jackson,
    • LaGrange,
    • Montezuma,
    • Newnan,
    • Peachtree City,
    • Thomaston, and
    • Warm Springs

Perhaps the station should be contacted to see if there is a feed issue to DirecTV or maybe any change that hasn't been properly documented or announced that they could shed some light on what is going on.

@Juniper  yes something like that but I really think it's a line item missing issue that no one is catching I've had to fix so many missing line items especially after a programming change.

I agree it sounds most likely a line item issue. I cannot fathom sending a tech out for a single channel that has a authorization error which means it is on the service side, not the equipment side.

I wonder if any equipment changes happened at that time. Along with line items there is the matter of 'primary' receiver. If that one is deactivated, or if it is not the most advanced one on the account, it can cause line item conflicts. Such as having an HR24 and H23, but the non-DVR is primary. Was an occasional issue at least in the old account system (happend to a few people I knew and customer support just had to change that designation/checkbox and that reinstated missing line items).

Thanks to everyone for responses. Two technicians came out, swapped out the receiver and that solved the problem. The technicians were efficient and professional. Great guys!

That's interesting. It must have been either a line item issue as previously alluded to by Nabukl and Juniper, or possibly an access card issue.
