remote update equipment

We are renting a home in FL for a couple months.  TV service is Comcast!  Their remote technology is way above Direct TV units.  The buttons light, & you can bring up a channel or procedure just by talking to the remote.  Do I just have old equipment?  I just had Direct TV installed in my new home a little over four years ago!

No you don't have old equipment. Backlit and voice controlled options are not the standard in the world (yet).

DirecTV does have backlit remotes, but you buy them yourself as they are not included with their standard install.

Currently DirecTV boxes and remotes do not have voice options themselves. However Genie setups can use Alexa, though still has some improvements to make.

DTV doesn't have voice activated remotes but Genies can use Alexa.

There are backlit DTV remotes but you will have to buy them as they are not included in a basic install.
