Problem with fast forwarding

WIthin the past couple of weeks, I have been experiencing an issue when fast forwarding.   As a typical example, I am watcing a recorded show (OR a show that is currently recording) and I fast forward say 5 minutes.  I will get the clocking icon - then eventually a message that says there was an error fast forwarding and to try again - then I am taken back to where I was when I originally requested the fast forward.

I have rebooted the modem, router and my Roku-enabled TV without it helping the situation.    I am NOT experiencing this situation when running other streaming services (Netflix/Prime/Hulu).    This has been occurring constantly for the past few weeks.  It has effectively eliminated my ability to fast forward.

Any thought?   Thanks

We'd like to take a look, @MrCreosote. Please provide your TV's make and model number, as well as the DIRECTV App version. Also, if you haven't already, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the DIRECTV App. John, DIRECTV Community Team

I'm also having same issue. VERY frustrating. doing 30 second skips seems to work better. My TV is 65 inch TCL with Roku. seems to work fine on phone and tablet. I have 250 megabyte connection, so it's not a speed issue. PLEASE FIX.

It sounds like this is a known issue and a lot of people are having the problem.. Is there a resolution coming soon?

I am having the same issue on my TCL 55" Class 5-Series 4K UHD QLED Dolby Vision HDR Roku Smart TV - 55S531. I am using the DirecTV app Version 4.26 - build 103101. I've tried all the recommended fixes, deleting and reinstalling the app, deleting apps, unplugging the TV. My recorded shows play fine on my iMac, iPad and iPhone. But try fast forwarding a recorded show of Adam-12 (or other recorded shows) and I get the clocking icon. This does not happen on other apps. Suggestions?

Same issue here over the last few weeks. This is clearly the result of something changing as this never occurred until recently. All my TCL TVs with Roku have the same problem. I’ve considered going back to YouTube TV.

Interesting.  I am the OP.  I ALSO have a TCL Roku TV - 65".  Model 65R625    The DirecTV version is 4.26 and the build is 103101

I have done the resetting of all of my network equipment.  I deleted and re-installed the DTV Streaming app on the TV.  It actually worked without issue for a few days before starting up again.   I have had DTV Streaming for 2 years.  This behavior started about a month ago.   There are zero problems rewinding.   As others have mentioned, if you fast forward for (approx) less than 1 minute, it works OK.  This happens on a pre-recorded/saved video...and also if you are at a saved point in a live broadcast and try and FF more than a minute.    I have gigabit internet speed

We also have a Sharp 50" TV with Roku that it also happens on...but less often.  It ALWAYS happens on the TCL Roku.

Thanks all for your responses.

To ALL - thank goodness I am not the only one seeing this or similar issues with FF of recorded (or recording) shows (on Roku OS)!  I agree that it has been so much worse in the last month.  I've had the problem before then, but in the last month it has gotten so bad that I'm going crazy!

I have also done everything to fix the problem!!  I agree that this is something that changed in the software recently and DTV needs to fix this issue!!!

See my post here:

By the way, I really like some of the recent updates in the software.

Start recording a show in the middle and you get the entire show is awesome.

On Roku I also noticed the guide will "loop around" when scrolling through it filtered in favorites mode.

Lots of good changes, but this FF issue is driving me nuts!

@MrCreosote - same issue here on all my Roku streaming devices.  Two Roku Ultra devices (this is the best device Roku sells, most memory and fastest processor) and one streaming stick.  All devices support 4k video, which typically means more memory and/or faster processor.  So these are not the cheaper low-end Roku devices.

My 2 Ultra devices are connected with an ethernet cable to my home network.  So it's not a wifi issue.

"The DirecTV version is 4.26 and the build is 103101"

I have same version!  Also started about a month ago for me too!  Very frustrating.  I have tried rebooting, clearing cache, powering off, uninstalling/reinstalling app, etc.  Nothing fixes it.

I was able to make it stop working while the customer service rep was on the phone with me.  That was before an uninstall.  Then, while he was on the phone, I uninstalled, rebooted, installed and was able to make it go bad again!  He was reading from their generic script so he was of no help!  In the end he basically gave up and said their software has a bug and I have to wait for them to fix it.

I have a good internet connection.  And, like you, no other app on the Roku causes an issue!

Frustrating to say the least!
