June Programming Notices
So, in this forum, there's a RUMOR that the AT&T v Fox situation might come to a head towards the end of the summer...or not...once again, a RUMOR posted by one individual (not me.)
June 2015:
As previously noticed, AT&T's contract with the programmer for the following channels is set to expire. While these channels will continue to be available to U-verse members so long as AT&T has the rights to carry them, if a reasonable agreement cannot be reached with the programmer the programming will no longer be available. AT&T may modify the channel location for the programming by moving them from their current channel location to a channel between 9501 – 9599, and if a reasonable longer term agreement cannot be reached with the programmers, we may lose the rights to carry them (listed in alphabetical order) in or after June 2015: MGM HD (channel 1116), and Shorts HD (channel 1789).
As well as the following local channels:
(1) For California, in the Los Angeles area, KRCA (channel 62 and 3024); and in the San Diego area, KSDX (channel 29 and 3024);
(2) For Texas, in the Dallas area, KMPX (channel 29 and 3024); and in the Houston area, KZJL (channel 61 and 3024).

It is amazing. This character must have inside information that no one else on this forum has. He assumes that any channel or group of channels that have contracts up for negotiations will automatically be dropped from the U-verse lineup.
Fats: These monthly programming notices have been posted ever since the beginning of U-verse. The only major channels that are no longer on U-verse that I can think of are the Hallmark channels and the NHL Network. We lost the Scripps channels (HGTV etc.) for just a weekend before they were back on. If there are others, I would hope that another forum member would chime in.
{keep it courteous}

I forgot about the three Root Sports channels in Pittsburgh, Denver, and Seattle. At least it was not traumatic because it is my understanding that U-verse does not have service in those three areas.

...as is the case with all those channels if you don't live in the market. The only difference between losing ROOT and losing something like FS Ohio or FS Midwest is that AT&T actually has a preference there...as already said.

Actually, the loss of Root Sports Pittsburgh did impact portions of Ohio - that channel was the main source for Pittsburgh Pirates games in Columbus and Central Ohio. Root Sports was removed right when the Pirates turned the corner and have been contenders ever since! I believe subscribers in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio could receive Pittsburgh Penguins games on Root.
The sad thing is that the Pirates are not available on MLB Extra Innings / At Bat in Central Ohio as Columbus is in the "home" market area for the Pirates. DirecTV for some unexplainable reason also blacks out Pirates games in Columbus even if you subscribe to the package with Root Sports. Dish Network is the only carrier that provides Root Sports Pittsburgh and the Pirates games - all in their base package that also includes FOX Sports Ohio and Sportstime Ohio.

Blackouts are typically set by the various leagues. As we know, the providers have no say in what is blacked out. In theory, if the game is blacked out on TV, you should be able to get it online...but only MLB has the final "say" here.
I think Columbus U-Verse viewers got Pirates games way back when, then it was "spring training only."
But here's what you do. Subscribe to the online version. Download a free program called TunnelBear. Set it for Canada. This makes MLB.tv "think" you're watching in Canada. Activate the stream and then close TunnelBear. You get a small amount of data each month. You can send a tweet "advertisement" to your followers for an extra bit of data. You can pay a fee for one year of unlimited data.
You can also try Hola Unblocker, but they do sketchy things on their free version.

I'm guessing this is why I don't see MGM HD on the Uverse listings anymore.

Both MGM HD (1116) and Shorts HD (1789) are both listed in the U-verse channel guide. I remember scrolling through the channels on Saturday, and watched Shorts HD for a few seconds. Yesterday, I had the television on MGM HD for a few mintues while they were telecasting a "Rocky" marathon.

It looks like the originally owned by Comcast NBC channels are up for renewal. I wonder if they'll just extend the contract until the original Universal owned channels are up for renewal to get a better overall deal.

Yeah, if 1116 and 1789 aren't showing up, go to your remote and press "Menu" then select options, channel options, hide channels. Go to the list of channels and press 1116 and make sure there's a checkmark. Do the same with 1789. Be sure to save your selections.
If they are checkmarked and not showing up, unplug the box for 30 seconds. If it's a DVR, make sure you're not recording anything while the box is unplugged or for about five minutes after that.
