Has there been an update to Direct TV features to allow reduction in data usage? ie. drop picture resolution from p1080 down to p420 or p720?

So I am seeing that you need a streaming box and remote that you have to purchase for the app to work properly. This was not disclosed when I signed up for the free trail. So is the case and do you have to have one for each TV and what is the cost.
