DIRECTV dropping OANN?

How could you bow down to the WOK cancel culture demands to dropping OANN?  They do not lie!  The "big lie of the 2020 election" is absolutely true. There is mountains of evidence of the election steal. All the misinformation comes from liberals not conservatives!  My husband and I will be dropping Directv if you go thru this in April. I will convince all our friends and family to do likewise. This is an attack on freedom of speech and our country. Shame on you!!!!

Just an fyi for everyone posting “I’m putting it on record that I’m leaving” what record? Everyone in here are customers same as you directv nor anyone at directv that has any authority to change anything will read your posts.

While AT&T employees do look at forum posts from time to time, we are here to represent the forum with our experiences as customers and do not represent AT&T in any official capacity with our responses and do so on our own time unpaid and off the clock. As employees we are not rewarded nor compensated to participate in these forums This forum is comprised of regular customers to communicate with other customers to offer advice and share experiences same as any other user Although there is a small team of customer care specialists that monitor the forums the sheer volume of posts are simply too many posts for these agents to respond to each one of them.

If a channel blocked select content from a TV network they carry, that would be censorship. Choosing not to have an agreement and pay for a channel is not. That is freedom of choice.

I am not defending if AT&T/DirecTV's decision on this is the best way to go or not. All I am saying it is their right to do so and we customers do not have the right to force them to do otherwise. People need to look into what the actual definitions of Censorship and Freedom of Speech are.

At this point everyone has been informed. If you are so upset about the decision, or just simply cannot live without OANN, then it is up to you to go with one of those carriers that has them. Remember, there are many TV providers that do not carry OANN so choose carefully.

Censorship can take many forms. What needs to be asked is 'why', out of all of the channels, DirectTV choose OANN? It is a news channel. What would be next, NewsMax? It is just suspicious behavior in a era of 'cancel culture'.

Then of course there is the 'President' saying, and I quote: ""I make a special appeal to social media companies and media outlets — please deal with the misinformation and disinformation that's on your shows. It has to stop."

Of course the 'misinformation' is ANY information that offers a counter-opinion to the current Left establishment.  The purpose of not renewing the OANN (Herring) contract is clear.  We should all speak with our pocket books.

I have been a Direct TV customer for years and an AT&T customer for many years longer.  I will be cancelling both AT&T and Direct TV if I do not hear they will be renewing the OAN channel contract before April 1, 2022.  I consider it a breach of contract and will cancel as a matter of principal.  I am so sick of all things WOKE.  Goodbye Direct TV and AT&T forever.  Once I cancel, I will not ever use their services again, no matter what!  They need me more than I need them.

Don’t do it Direct Tv. Drop OAN and you are history. I’ve been a loyal customer for a very long time but my country and my Constitutional Rights are way more important than a Tv company.

As a longtime customer I concur with those many other longtime customers heard from in this significant thread who are cancelling their service.

No constitutional rights have been violated. You don't like the decision, fair enough. But your rights are intact.

I keep directv because of the diverse options I have to keep informed. The variety of news stations on my channel lineup is what keeps me paying these outrageous prices. If OAN, NewsMax, or FOX News is removed, even just 1 of these channels end up missing from my channel lineup I will cancel all my services, I will boycott all AT&T services, and or products! I will make it my mission to share my opinion with anyone that will listen to me. I will not be dictated to by CBS,NBC,CNN and any other new source that likes to hide, and lie important truths, that effect not only my life, but the lives of all I love!! I only watch the other stations occasionally, because to be honest I don't care about their opinions, feelings, or self centered righteous ideology. I just want the facts so I can decide for myself who's telling the truth. Haven't seen (Edited per community guidelines) covered about our corrupt government on any of these stations; while our country goes to (Edited per community guidelines).

I am disappointed that you want to drop OANN, I would greatly appreciate you reconsider. We have Direct Tv for the purpose of viewing OANN. We will be dropping Direct Tv . Free speech is free speech , if you were truly about misinformation, many others should be gone. Since when do you bow to NAACP? Pathetic

@Juniper, you have it all wrong as you are missing the point.  It’s documented in several reliable sources that Direct TV / ATT decided not to renew the contract with OAN after influence from left leaning groups.  Your choosing to ignore this and my assumption is your doing so either with your political bias or loyalty to Direct TV.

It’s censorship from Big Tech at its finest unless ATT / Direct TV comes and flat out denies articles from CNN, PCMAG, Bloomberg, and Reuters.  If it was a true contract negotiation issue, there would be more information and Direct TV would have extended an olive branch to indicate it’s possible for the decision to be reversed pending negotiations.

As for other comments regarding this forum will not resolve the issue: they are spot on.  My hypothesis is most customers have no knowledge that OAN is going to be cancelled and it will not be until sometime in April until the executives in power see what it is like to lose hundreds of thousands of customers once people realize the channel is gone.

The best way to get your message across is Cancel Direct TV and provide the loss of OAN as the reason.

@ElmerFudd79

Doesn't matter if it was a contract negotiation issue or not. Though the only official word from them is it was a decision after an "internal review" without going into any specifics.

They can carry channels or not at their choice. That is why no rights have been violated. There is nothing about our rights that says they must pay for and carry certain channels. Pay TV is entertainment. Channels come and go as they decide.

It is fair to not like whatever the reasoning may be for the decision. But regardless of that reason, it is their choice. This has nothing to with political bias or loyalty as you suggest. Just saying the reality of the situation as much as you don't like it. Censorship is only counted if they were to piecemeal the feed and block out certain parts. It does not cover who they are allowed or are required to pay and carry.

And at least get the name right. It is DirecTV, not Direct TV as you said multiple times.

It is politically motivated. AT&T owns DirecTv and they own CNN. They announced this decision the day after Biden requested it. Open your eyes and look at the big picture.
