DIRECTV dropping OANN?
How could you bow down to the WOK cancel culture demands to dropping OANN? They do not lie! The "big lie of the 2020 election" is absolutely true. There is mountains of evidence of the election steal. All the misinformation comes from liberals not conservatives! My husband and I will be dropping Directv if you go thru this in April. I will convince all our friends and family to do likewise. This is an attack on freedom of speech and our country. Shame on you!!!!

At the bottom of the page is the link, but here you are if you missed it.
DIRECTV Community Forum Guidelines | DIRECTV Community Forums
Bottom line it is DirecTV's right in the end. The guidelines try to point on in general what is an issue, but at the end of the day it is their choice. And you would think having content removed once (or perhaps twice if you thought the 1st was an error) would give you a clue that what you are posting is problematic.
At that point Elmer has no defense for constantly violating their forum rules. And before any such specific objection is mentioned, as does occasionally, our Constitutional rights do not extend to how a privately owned forum manages allowed content.

@Canceled I can’t stop thinking about Elmer. I’m sure his feelings are hurt. Mine would be. It doesn’t feel good to be excluded from a forum. It’s especially confusing and doesn’t seem right or fair when, like you said, Elmer was just speaking the truth and trying to help others struggling with decisions surrounding alternative providers. I’m guessing Elmer is a salt-of-the-earth kind of individual who subscribes to the business model that customers make or break a business; backlash is dangerous; happy customers multiply; and every customer is invaluable and should be treated as such. The way I see it, keeping and acquiring customers is a huge investment of time, money, and patience. Why wouldn’t DirectTV want to get an understanding of their customers’ likes and open up more avenues of revenue? Many customers on this forum feel devalued, and that is just sad. I am scratching my head, but like Juniper said, it’s DirectTV’s choice. Yes, it certainly is.

When DirectV drops OAN and NewsMax I too will be dropping DirectV. If the viewership was low I would understand but it is a political one. The way it should work if no one is watching a channel it would be removed but making a political censorship choice this is so Un-American I would be ashamed to keep supporting the service. There are so many racist and WOKE channels but they are allowed to remain.

He refused to stop posting something that was clearly not allowed. His opinions for DirecTV's decision should be respected. But something about what he was posting crossed the line for them.
Just like a parent and a kid. It would be nice if they better explained themselves, but if they keep saying no and a kid keeps doing it, then punishment ensues regardless of hurt feelings.
As long as you are in DirecTV's "court" (the forum), their judgement stands. This is the reality of how a private forum works.

Juniper. What moderation? I thought you said bots sifted things out.

Having automated filters does not replace actual moderators. It would be expected the moderators step in when something is outside the common issues. There is still the human component after all.

Canceled
That rule seems counterproductive if one cannot cite what was inappropriate, harmful, objectionable, or inaccurate. Long term customers are extremely upset with DirecTV applying that rule to OAN when they in their sole discretion decided what political party to support. Does that seem accurate @SOH @maga09 @Catskills_Dan @SuzeP1245 @LindyK ?
Unfortunately, yes.

I'm in total agreement with you and I think you speak for many of us.
Years ago I worked in a factory. At the time clock was a large poster of a lion with the caption:
The Customer Is KING!
Too bad DirecTV doesn't feel the same.

@Catskills_Dan and @LindyK -
When I cancelled my service the other day (its still good to the end of the month), the customer service rep I spoke with never asked why I was dropping. I told him anyway and he seemed uninterested. I think perhaps DirecTV is letting the content side of their business go, many old cable providers are doing the same. The streaming services are winning in the business wars and I think the bigger telecoms are falling back to the infrastructure side of the business - high speed internet, mobile services, etc. So yes I think we are all reading this correctly that DirecTV doesn't really care about the content customer base. I don't say that to be critical, I simply observe that as a neutral business reality.

You wrote: "The way it should work if no one is watching a channel it would be removed but making a political censorship choice this is so Un-American I would be ashamed to keep supporting the service."
EXACTLY, I agree. They reacted to the MOVE ON DOT ORG petition threatening them, and so they caved. Keep in mind that MOVE ON isn't a customer, they are outsiders threatening DirecTV and I think after what we all in the US saw in the summer of 2020 with the national unrest that lasted for months where government authorities intentionally stepped back and allowed it, what is a private company without its own army to do? Especially over a content business that (I think) they no longer care about anyway?
That, plus the fact that the left always gets what it wants, and the right rarely does. The right tends to be respectful, law abiding, considerate, self-deprecating, and kind. The left is another story.
This is the part where our friend who has named himself after a famous network technology company comes in to tell us that DirecTV can do what they want (nobody says otherwise) and that he doesn't work for them, he simply logs in all day every day and sings the party line and tells us the inner workings of their contracts and business all out of the goodness of his heart, voluntarily, as a fun hobby. Sure, it's possible.

From an earlier post that you mentioned similar, I assume you mean me. I did not name myself after any technology. I decided on something that grows and I felt it rolled off the tongue rather well.
I understand I post more often than you like and do not share exactly the same views. But that is what I choose to do with some of my free time as a customer. Yes this has become essentially a hobby for me.
DirecTV made a choice that many in this thread disagree with. So far it seems unlikely they will change it, though not impossible. I do prefer variety, but am not tied to any given channel so the choice does not affect me as strongly as others.
DirecTV no longer wanted to support and pay for the network. But those in this thread have voiced their issue with that and feel they shouldn't have. Unfortunately there is not an answer that is acceptable to both sides. If they don't want the channel, they don't have to carry it. And each of us customers makes our own decision with that reality. If they ever change their mind, fair enough. But be prepared that the outcome may not be what you want.

Is it true that you are not renewing the contract for OANN? When does the contract expire?

If OANN does get dropped, I will definitively be cancelling my service. The only reason I still have the service was for OANN and SEC channel. Now I just have to decide which livestream to purchase. OANN is not “far right”. It is fair and objective and still has morals and supports family values like the majority of Americans do. It reports what is really happening in the world.
