Newsmax
I switched from Xfinity/Comcast to AT&T and now AT&T is cancelling Newsmax which have more viewers than other news channels they are keeping. If AT&T does not resolve and restore Newsmax by Friday January 27, 2023 I will be switching back to Xfinity/Comcast, very disappointed in AT&T.

I'm pretty tired of this deplatforming stuff. First OAN and now Newsmax. ATT has no problem paying tons of money to low-viewership woke networks, but refuses to pay *anything* to high viewership conservative networks. Directv makes me pay for channels I don't want to watch, and refuses to may trivial amounts to give me channels I do want to watch. I *have no choice* but to subsidize CNN and MSNBC yet heaven forbid a penny goes to Newsmax. This is silly. It's work to find streaming sources for the stuff I do want to watch, but it's getting to the point that I'm going to have to do it. If I'm going to have to start subscribing to ten streaming services to get what I want, there's no reason to pay for Directv.

It’s been almost two weeks since NewsMax has been removed from the lineup. Why haven’t you cancelled DIRECTV yet?

Newsmax is free with their streaming service, offering the same live content as available on any streaming service. So there is one of your 10 that costs nothing. It's also available on several other streaming apps like YouTube and Pluto. It's not coming back, so to continue to rant about political issues is ridiculous at this point.
For DirecTV Satellite, call 1-800-531-5000.
For DirecTV Stream, call 1-888-429-4023.

@billollib get your cancellation in order because they won't bring the channel back. You may want to wait until your billing date because they don't prorate. I cancelled my DirecTV last year due to OAN cancellation. Lots of other options out there, all you need is high-speed internet. I don't miss the pixeling during rainstorms nor the high monthly price!

Just remember folks, OAN and Newsmax are different situations. Unlike OAN which was given a solid good-bye (annoucement of carriage agreement would not be renewed a few months prior to it ending), Newsmax would be back if they can provide a deal that would be acceptable for DirecTV.
Not everything is red vs blue or some other political situation. Sometimes changes happen that you just don't like, but were nothing more than simple business.

Every year these threads appear. And every year I keep wishing the carriers (cable companies and DIRECTV) would hold their ground until the local's realize they are losing eyes for their advertising. People blame the carriers for their "greed" and not supplying "their channels" that "they are paying for".
First, they are not "your channels". DIRECTV can do anything they want to the channel lineup as per these terms of service 8. INTERRUPTIONS, LIMITATIONS, AND MODIFICATIONS TO SERVICE
Service may be temporarily interrupted or otherwise limited for a variety of reasons; some beyond the control of DIRECTV. DIRECTV reserves the right to refuse credit allowances for interruptions of Service. DIRECTV also reserves the right to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, at any time and from time to time, the Services (or any function or feature of the Services or any part thereof) without liability. You acknowledge that DIRECTV may establish general practices and limits concerning use of the Services, including without limitation, the limits set forth in the attached Schedule 1 and Schedule 2.
. You are paying for a TV service, not specific individual channels.

Cancelled my Directv today. I was a little more patient, I gave them almost 3 weeks. But without NewsMax, Directv just isn't worth $128/month.

Of course you can get newsmax (and many other channels on directv) free from elsewhere. This is pure anti-conservative activism, and they are hiding it. I rarely watched newsmax, but I'm switching providers out of principle.

@bcbsncjlj says you're not a Directv employee. That's either a lie or you have a sad hobby of impersonating someone with actual authority and knowledge. I hope you are an employee and get laid off due to your companies bad decisions. go woke go broke.

@imsap65
Those who are employed by AT&T/DirecTV have a tag next to their name indicating as such. There are those who do post on their personal time (off-the-clock) will say "employee", whereas those posting in official capacity will have the approved logos and proper tags such as "community support".
@bcbsncjlj is not impersonating anybody. Like the rest of those with the tag of "ACE", they have been acknowledged as someone of reliable knowledge who has helped provide guidance on many discussions in the forum. Since they are not employed by AT&T/DirecTV, they are free to respond casually like anyone else (keeping within the forum guidelines of course that apply to us all).
As been mentioned, this has nothing to do with your buzz word of "woke". DirecTV and Newsmax were in carriage negotiations as always when the current one is coming up. This time the network requested a cost the TV provider was unwilling to pay. Whether DirecTV stance is keeping exactly like the old agreement, or simply had issue with the new cost being too high, it is their right to not to accept Newsmax's new offer. At least they are still willing to negotiate, though are waiting for Newsmax to make the initial move on that. https://www.directv.com/tvpromise/
We don't have to agree on whether DirecTV is making a good choice or not. But it is their right on how they negotiate (if at all). But for all in any of these threads, lets leave the attacks and insults at the door.

It is incorrect to say that DirecTV is canceling Newsmax. It is more accurate to say that Newsmax is refusing to allow DirecTV to continue to carry them unless they are paid millions of dollars. I say this as a conservative that the way Newsmax has handled this is simply wrong.. They have taken what is a business dispute and turned it into ideological "censorship." They are essentially trying to extort money from DirecTV by weaponizing their viewer base with very biased information. Newsmax is readily available for free, so how is that censorship, and why would DirecTV pay millions of dollars to carry that? Video has become extremely competitive. DirecTV needs to keep its expenses low in order to remain competitive. I expect we're only going to see more of these kinds of disputes in the future as content providers tend to value their product more than it's worth when there are so many streaming options.

Hello-
I was a DirecTV customer for 20+ until several years ago when I changed services to Comcast. It’s been a challenging few years with Comcast and recently I had been considering a change back to DirecTV. Slightly undecided but planning to make a decision within the next few days, I was heavily leaning towards returning to DirecTV. That was, until I was made aware of a decision by DirecTV that would’ve had me regretting my move. That decision from DirecTV was to drop Newsmax. You see, when I select a provider’s services, I’m not paying for them to provide me with that they want me to see. It’s about what I want to to see. At least, I believe I am the customer in this type of transaction.
Therefore, I wanted to personally thank DirecTV on their decision which helped me narrowly miss a mistake I would’ve made returning to DirecTV. Thank you.
