Direct TV cancellation
One of the happiest days for a while today as I'm about to cancel my Direct TV service. No more cable or Direct TV bills. What a waste of money it's been over the years to pay so much for so little. If you listen to the commercials, they make it out like you must have your tv programs to survive and you must even have them available when you're sitting on a beach while vacationing. What a scam. And why would I ever pay for a service to watch advertising? To think of it, why would I pay for a service to watch advertising their own shows and company?. AND WHY WOULD I EVER EVER EVER PAY FOR A SERVICE THAT STREAMS PAID ADVERTISING ON BETTER THAN HALF OF THEIR CHANNELS? I am sooooooo stupid for not doing this earlier. Did I mention that I have absolutely no interest in sports what so ever? I'd rather wait on hold for the IRS for four hours and then get hung up on before watching sports. However for some strange reason, I've been charged for and paying some type of special fee for sports programing. I AM THE BIGGEST LOOOOOOOOOSER. The sad thing is I've paid all this money over the years, not because I need to watch TV, but to appease my "X". Oh what a fool I am. So happy to know that the overpaid fat cats at the top of the cable companies won't be getting any of my hard earned money anymore.
Oh how good that felt to get off my chest. This will probably be deleated by AT&T before to many read it. I can only hope that some of you get to read it and if I'm lucky a copy will end up on some Suit's desk Monday morning. This cancellation and letter is my straw that will hopefully help to break the back of the glutinous, greedy big corporation and those that sit at the top and prey on the average person.

No, your post won’t be deleted. You haven’t violated any forum rules. Hope your venting made you feel better.

DTV has no control over what a channel does with their programming or ads all they do is rebroadcast what is sent to them. All TV providers charge the RSN fee on the channel packages that have them.

TV providers have no say over the advertisements. That is between the channel owners and the advertisers who pay for the space on the channel. If the channels did not have the revenue from the advertisers they would charge the TV providers that much more which would of course raise our (the customer) bills.
Showcasing how people could watch TV away from home is not a scam. Some people want that feature while others wouldn't care. So it attracts those who actually want it.
Yes one of DirecTV's (and yes it is DirecTV, not Direct TV) biggest selling points is sports. They are the exclusive place of the NFL Sunday Ticket after all. The Preferred Xtra package was the sweet spot (in my opinion) for those that watch little to no sports. The RSN fee was always there. But unlike other providers, DirecTV stopped hiding it in the package cost and itemized it as of a few years ago. And that means it is no longer flat across the board, but specific for the professional teams where you live. So it is now transparent.
Bottom line, sports matters to many, if not most, in America. Though I do wish there was an option between Select and Preferred Xtra for the non sport watchers.
So it seems your 'x' was the biggest issue as this was all for them, not yourself. Well hope you feel better.

Don't mess with old people. The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

Considering how their rant ended, I understood they are not much of a TV watcher to begin with. They only had the service for their "X". So this appears to more the escape from a bad relationship is why they are ecstatic.
But regardless of how much the relationship coerced them into services they didn't want as much, or any separate feelings for the TV service, I am always curious why someone goes through the steps to create a forum account just to tell other customers they are leaving. It is the same as yelling it in the street to random people passing by. The response would be then leave so we don't run you over as we don't care.
