DIRECT TV CHANGE SERVICE ADDRESS

I HAVE TALKED TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE THIS WEEK ABOUT UPDATING MY SERVICE ADDRESS. THESE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED. a MOVE ORDER WAS PUT IN. I DIDN'T NEED A MOVE ORDER BECAUSE I WAS JUST MOVING BOXES. DIRECT TV HAD ALREADY COME TO SET UP THE HOUSE AND SATELLITE AS IT WAS A RENTAL HOUSE. IT HAD BEEN EMPTY SO I MOVED THE BOXES TO MY ADDRESS (WITH NO PROBLEM AND NO TECHNICIAN!) AND KEPT THEM THERE UNTIL I HAD TENANTS AGAIN. I NOW HAVE TENANTS AND AM TRYING TO MOVE THE BOXES BACK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD MULTIPLE TIMES BY MULTIPLE "SUPERVISORS" THAT THEY HAVE MANUALLY UPDATED MY MOVE ADDRESS AND THAT I WOULDNT HAVE A TECHNICIAN COME OUT. COMPLETE LIES!! IT SAYS THAT I HAVE A TECHNICIAN COMING OUT TODAY!! SO FRUSTRATING TO BE TOLD ONE THING MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEN TO BE TOLD THAT IT CAN'T HAPPEN. WHY ARE YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS LYING TO US?

ummm, why are the tenants using your boxes?

having service at 2 locations is a violation of terms of service.

this is account stacking, illegal reselling, ect ect.

Account is for one residence. It used to be ok to update the service address when relocating all the boxes between two locations (seasonal home, vacation cabin, etc.). The problem is that too many people would have boxes at both (or more) locations at the same time. This is an issue as the physical service address determines what locals you get, what market you are in regarding professional sport teams, and the taxes you are required to pay.

As such they now require a full Movers order to update the service address. This is to follow through with the intent that one account per address. Some agents may try to follow the old way, but with the new account system and AT&T requiring DirecTV to follow the rules more closely, it normally will not work.

Also the tenants cannot pay you for DirecTV service. You can let them use yours, but you are fully responsible for anything they order as it is your account. If you want them responsible for the service, then they must get their own account.

yeah, right, they'd have boxes at two locations. so? if they owe both locations and theyre using them themselves and paying a box fee on every one of them, THAT'S a problem? Geez.

Yes it is a problem if they are on the same account

The physical service address determines locals provided, authorized sports teams, and the taxes you are required to pay. So per DirecTV's Terms of Service and FCC regulations, it is one address allowed per account. It is for one residence after all.

Used to be allowed for people to just call and change the address allowing them to go back and forth with a 2nd home. But too many people left boxes at both places active instead of doing a seasonal/vacation disconnect on individual boxes, or even if they did take all wouldn't call and update the physical address. So that resulted in a violation of regulations and taxes.

So the loophole has been closed. DirecTV's new billing account system no longer allows just changing the service address upon request and requires a proper Movers order. As long as it has been 12 months since original install or the last move, with account active and in good standing, then it should be free. Otherwise it is $199.

so what if somebody left a box at the second home? who's there to watch it anyway? The butler? This stuff is so moronic.

In the old days if someone left a box at the 2nd home, they would call to do a vacation/seasonal disconnect on individual boxes that were not in use and update the service address accordingly.

But the company cannot verify if the active boxes and service address match, or if both might be in use at the same time such as if it was actually for a family member or perhaps the entire household didn't travel together.

You might find it "moronic" but there is valid reason why DirecTV accounts no longer are allowed to just change service address at any time without a proper Movers order. They have become more strict on the option to prevent violation of the rules as previously mentioned. If box is active at that 2nd location then that state, county, etc. demands their taxes paid as the service is authorized to that box regardless if anyone is there to use it at any given time.

So now if you have a 2nd home, it is to be a separate account with its own boxes. No moving them back and forth and/or verifying each individual box on which ones should be active. All you have to do is call DirecTV and suspend one account and resume the other. You could even have both on at the same time if needed for any reason.

There are valid reasons for why it works this way now, even if you don't find it applies to you personally. Too many have abused how it used to work, so now they are being more diligent to follow the rules and intention thereof. Sorry if that is inconvenient for you.

first thing, none of what was discussed about leaving a receiver at another home so "somebody" or "nobody" can watch it applies to me. but I know, directv AT&T has this or that tax that something wants paid but doesn't even know that the box is there. yeah, right, that's a reason for directv AT&T to make these draconic changes. some kind of authoritarian totaliatarian approach to people. i get it, that's why AT&T owns CNN. sure, total sense.
