Direct TV

I cancelled Direct TV in Feb. and received a bill that I have been trying to pay since then. Went into an ATT store and paid it but they mistakenly applied it to my phone bill. They are threatening to send me to collections, which would affect my credit score. Because the account is closed, there is no access to it online. It's a catch-22. No one at ATT seems to know how to handle this. Suggestions?

NEVER go into an ATT store for anything DirecTV related, they're clueless. Since they applied your payment to your att services the only option you have is to make another payment to DirecTV directly by calling a customer service rep. Even though your direcTV account is closed you can still make a payment.
Call direcTV customer service NOT att customer service

Oh and don't let them tell you they can't take a payment on a closed account, they CAN I used to do it all the time.

Thank you for your help. Part of the problem with calling is that customer service personnel are working at home due to the virus and the ones I've talked to couldn't take my credit card info. I'll try again in the morning. Perhaps they can take my checking account info.

Though AT&T owns DirecTV they are not completely integrated, especially with stores that more operate as a 3rd party authorized retailer just to sell new DirecTV service but not manage existing accounts.

You call and make payment over the phone. Because of moving to the new billing account system you might not be able to do so through the voice system and provide it through a live agent instead.

If you still have issue making the payment, you could submit a dispute on a missing/misapplied payment. Unsure if posting to your AT&T phone account would count, but it is a backup option if you still have issues making payment directly. www.directv.com/paymentdispute
