DirecTV Cancellation

I have been trying to get a refund from the cancellation of my DirecTV service since February 2020. Even though I have a credit on my DirectTV account, AT&T refuses to remove the DirectTV charges from my AT&T Internet account. They insist on sending me a prepaid visa card to pay my account with, but have failed to send me one. I have spent hours on the phone and in online chats trying to get this resolved with no success. I asked for the issue to be escalated to a supervisor and they referred me to consumer.appeals@att.com, but the email bounced back. Horrible customer service!

AT&T internet and DirecTV are different accounts, even if you have the bill combined. So the DirecTV account billed AT&T, they paid it and are billing you to be reimbursed. When the DirecTV canceled it separated the combined billing. The charges on the AT&T account would only reverse back to DirecTV if this occurred before the bill produced on AT&T's end. So you pay the AT&T bill as shown

However since DirecTV no longer prorates final bills anymore, going to flat billing for the full month like many other companies, it is unusual to have a credit balance instead.

Since supervisor requests are done on the call, and there is no support by email, I would guess that agent was either trying to get rid of you or is outsourced and pulled up some very outdated info as I see that email mentioned in posts from years ago (did a quick search) with the same results.

Your option is to call DirecTV. But when you get the voice system say "cancel" as usually retention agents are more experienced. If still needed certainly request a supervisor which occurs during the call. However until their staffing is back to normal (Covid-19 closed many of their call centers temporarily), there are still long holds to deal with. Not guaranteed to get you the fund a different way as it is an automated process, but gives you a shot. Plus I would submit complaint on that prior call as either bad agent or they have some outdated (or incorrect if a typo) contact info somewhere in their polices.

Many an agent has suggested I do combined billing with one of their partners and I have declined as between different companies (which to some extent DirecTV and AT&T still are) causes billing confusion for too many people. As such I prefer being billed directly, not through a "middle man".

No support by email is common knowledge. They have phone and their chat as the options. I was not saying the email address was outdated, only that it might be a possibility as when I did a web search I found references to it in much older posts. So that is why it is possible that it is outdated or a typo as there are other examples.

If you get an agent who give false info, regardless of reason (source info inaccurate, they need some retraining, or just flat out a horrible agent), then you contact the company and submit a complaint. That is what you would do with any company, no hidden info there.

Bottom line is I do NOT work for DirecTV, AT&T, or any of their partners, no matter how many times you seem to imply otherwise. Life experience builds up over the years. I simply choose to avoid having blinders on.

Well your belief is not reality. I don't work for them. Not on my LES, not my tax return, etc. Sorry but I am not one of their employees.

even if he was an employee, how is that relevant to your complaint? This is a consumer forum, so we’re all customers.

Former Employee

This is a customer based forum........you came here for advise/answers from customers. The people here like to help. It specifically says he is NOT an employee. Refund checks are no longer sent..........they have replaced them with the cards. Read the terms and conditions of service and you will see that AT&T does not prorate the final bill. Long hold times are expected during this time......you do understand that right?

-------------------INCLUDED IN EACH POST FOR CLARIFICATION______

While AT&T employees do look at forum posts from time to time, we are here to represent the forum with our experiences as customers and do not represent AT&T in any official capacity with our responses. As employees we are not rewarded nor compensated to participate in these forums This forum is comprised of regular customers to communicate with other customers to offer advice and share experiences same as any other user Although there is a small team of customer care specialists that monitor the forums the sheer volume of posts are simply too many posts for these agents to respond to each one of them.
