You canceled DirecTV. Since you were under a service agreement you were charged an Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) based on how many months were left.

DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM are two different TV providers. It was like going to Comcast, Dish, Netflix, or Hulu.

They are 2 separate services.

That just adds six months to the contract, only active accounts count down the days till expiration.

That 6 month suspension would not help. The service agreement is also suspended during that time, as only active service counts towards completing it. So if they reactivate service suspend for 6 months, all they are doing is pushing back when they must pay the ECF, not the amount of it.

Too many agents over the years have suggested the same so that they are not dinged with a cancellation on their stats. Want to be sure we are not making their mistakes.

Well generally when it comes to switching from one dtv service to another they GENERALLY waive said fee as you are still within the same house. They would do the same thing with other att services as well. Idk if it has changed but I would give them a call to check to see if that might just a technical error. Generally you want DTV Stream Migration. Ask for that.

That is completely not true. There is no "migration". They have been considered two separate services. DIRECTV STREAM does not waive the ECF of DirecTV.

There have been agents who have said something to that effect, but either they don't understand the service or are purposely misinforming customers. And then those people post on the forum or other areas complaining about the fee they now have.

@Juniper

I apologize for the confusion and ill attempt to revise

In the directory we had, (im no longer employed) it was labled as Directv Stream Migrations. People who were looking to switch from DTV Sat to DTV Stream would be allowed to have that ETF waived.

Now considering I havent worked for them in the last few months this could have all changed. They could of completely redid how Beam to Stream migration works and what perks people are entitled to. They might not even have the title anymore and may have shifted it all over to loyalty/clg. Its completely possible my info is outdated but at the time which was just a few months ago that was the policy. ATT means At This Time.

I apologize again for the confusion. Also would like to say that you have been the single most used "outside source" of dtv info for me when the knowlegebases did not provide clear info or it was outside my ability to view due to what im skilled for. So thank you for helping me out in tight calls here and there. You are definitely a resource for sure.

AT&T sold off 30% of DTV and that may have applied to the new partner going forward with new customers to DTV.

That is an interesting piece of information. I wonder if as @shannon02 suggested it was a option (perhaps temporarily) with the new co-owner. Too many times I've seen complaints from those who were charged their ECF going from "beam to stream".

Glad I could help with that knowledge base for you. Little hard to Advance the Customer Experience for us outsiders when dealing with inaccessible, incomplete, or incorrect info.
