How do you speak to someone in charge at Direct TV?

I have spent soooo many hours trying to clear up my bill with Direct TV. I have been told a half dozen times that I do not owe the amount they have now sent TO COLLECTIONS, but the bill still exists and I am being harassed daily by their debt collector, Credence. How do I go about retrieving all the recorded conversations between myself and the dozens of employees I have spoke with at ATT/Direct TV? They tell you that your calls are recorded--now I want the proof so that I have a leg to stand on if I need to pursue legal action. Can someone please help me?

Let us point you in the right direction, @sandy1964.

Since the charge has been sent to a third party collection agency, we suggest you reach out to our Accounts Receivable department at 1-877-543-5937. They may not be able to retrieve every phone call you made to us, but they should be able to figure out if the charges are valid or not.

We hope this helps! Thank you for reaching out.

Whenever an account has been charged off it will show a zero balance so a csr that doesn't know any better will tell you you have a zero balance when in fact you don't they have look in a different part of the account to see the actual balance owed. So you've been given incorrect balance information.

Something learned over the years,

If an account goes past due long enough it gets written off to collections. Apparently when agents look at the account they see a $0 balance (as that is the status with DirecTV). But there is a separate spot for a write off amount (what was sent to collections). This seems to be missed too often by agents who have not dealt with an account in collections very often (or at all).

If that is what happened, be aware that the written off amount is not necessarily what you owe as at that point you settle with the collection agency who might have their own fees or if lucky settle for less that what was owed.

UPDATE...

So after 5 months of phone calls and promises that this bill would be cleared I had to finally file a complaint with the FCC. Funny how quickly the president of ATT's office called to say that it would be taken care of. Note to anyone else going through something like this--go straight to the FCC. I am so relieved to stop receiving threatening phone calls from their debt collector Credence. It has been a very stressful 5 months, to say the least.

End result good to hear. Not so good it had to go all the way to a FCC complaint.

I really enjoy my DirecTV service. But I am concerned about the inner workings between DirecTV and AT&T when I see situations like this.

Hope days going forward are now free from any excessive stress.
