I've been charged for NFL Sunday ticket and didn't ask for it, and now I can't afford my bill
I noticed a few months ago that I was being charged for the NFL Sunday ticket package. I didn't ask for it. As a matter of fact 2 years ago I asked for it NOT to be reactivated. This year I noticed that I was being charged for it. I called and asked for it to be removed and asked for a refund as I had already paid the bill. I was told that it would be removed and that I could not receive a refund, but would receive credits on my bill for several months in the amount of $50. The next month I was charged for it again and did not receive any credits. I then called back and was told that because I had a balance I could not get the credits and had to catch my bill up completely in order for the customer service representative to apply my credits. I was charged for this package and never had any access to it nor was I given any credits. Then my husband was laid off on furlough for COVID shutdowns for several and we got behind. I was lucky as I am a first responder and was considered essential personnel. I now can't afford my bill because of the raises in the amounts of the prices of the services. I asked several times for the credits to my bill or a refund as I paid $48.99 a month for 6 months for a service I didn't have access to nor did I want. We have tried to pay the amounts which were $351 a month for the last couple of months and last month I was able to do it, but this month I tried to do it and my payment got rejected and then they made me pay $581 in order to keep my service on, and now that payment is being rejected. We are on a one income budget right now and are barely keeping us above water. I don't see where Directv has done anything to help people who have been out of work for COVID. I would change to another company, but out here in the country there is not other options.

If you called 2 years ago and requested for it to be cancelled and the agent notated that you called in to cancel it and failed to cancel it, then you would be eligible for a full refund. However if that’s not the case, you would have gotten an auto renewal notification on your bill prior to the month where you started being billed for it last year and we’re advised you must cancel by 9/27/2020 to cancel and get a refund for any charges already billed. After that date you cannot cancel it in part or whole and are not eligible for a refund.

Not being opted out of the NFL Sunday Ticket is an issue. However you say this was 2 years ago?
Renewal notice is in June with 1 of 6 installments in July.
You have until season starts (in September) to opt out of renewal.
Opted out in time then any billed installments are credited back.
Since they have a 60 day billing dispute policy and give notice before season starts (including before the 1st installment billing), then unfortunately it is too late to get credited for what has already charged. All you can do now is verify that you are properly opted out so you don't get charged again for the upcoming season. Definitely keep an eye on the bills so that way you can address any concerns or questions in a reasonable time instead of months or years after the fact.

DIRECTV actually had COVID loyalty offers with a 6 month duration that were stackable with regular 12 month loyalty offers and they were up to $100 off, however not all customers were eligible for them and they have long expired. They also offered free previews of a bunch of channels that if you had Choice or below you wouldn’t have normally been able to watch from 3/20/2020 through 7/31/2020. They even just recently gave every customer who paid a Regional Sports Fee last year a one time courtesy adjustment on their bill due to COVID affecting sports in the spring and summer months last year. So they have absolutely helped customers due to COVID. But ultimately you could have downsized your package if possible to save money if it was so unaffordable, or cancelled the service.

I was charged for it this year and never had any access to it. I paid $48.99/mo for 6 months and was told that after first month of being charged it would be removed and I would receive credits. However that didn't happen. I mentioned 2 years ago because that was when I had told them I didn't want it anymore.

What do you mean you were charged "this year"? The 6 installments should be July thru December. So the 2021 season hasn't started charging yet and 2020 would have completed, with maybe the 6th installment showing in January (depending on your exact bill cycle). If you were charged outside of that, then that is confusing as it should not bill outside that time frame.
Telling them you no longer want it, only turns off the renewal. It does not block you from the ability of getting it again later. So was it never turned off in the first place and so you were charged the immediate next season from when you called, or that after skipping a season it got added back onto your account?

I was charged for it on the following statements:
payment #1: 09/17/2020 to 10/16/2020
payment #2: 10/17/2020 to 11/16/2020
payment #3:-11/17/2020 to 12/16/2020
payment #4:12/17/2020 to 1/16/2021
payment #5: 1/17/2021 to 2/16/2021
payment #6: 2/17/2021 to 3/16/2021
I never asked for it to be reactivated and I was charged for all of these payments on all of these statements and no one would remove them or give me the credits I was promised because I had a balance on my account.

I was never even told about any loyalty deals or anything when I called to have the NFL Sunday ticket removed.

If you don’t call to cancel it before the cut off date of 9/27/2020, 2 weeks after the season starts, then you’re (Edited per community guidelines). If you did call before then and the agent didn’t cancel it then you can get a credit for already billed charges but the remaining installments will continue to bill and will need manually adjusted if your account is in the AT&T billing system. Otherwise you can get a maximum of up to 50% credit of the charges but not the full credit. Again prior to being billed there would have been a renewal notification on your bill that says you’re all set to receive another season of the NFL Sunday Ticket so for future reference it’s important to look at your whole bill or check your online account

You only have until the season starts to cancel once the season starts you can't cancel and you pay the entire cost.

Starting in September? Unless your account was suspended in the months leading up to it, then that was not the auto renew but manually added. That needs a bit more research by someone with experience. Call DirecTV and when you get the voice system say "cancel" so you get a retention specialist. If needed request a supervisor.
Though past due does prevent some actions, such as adding credits in general, it should allow it if they are coded as for billing error. But there may be more restrictions with their new billing account system.
If through retention (even one of their supervisor) is unable to resolve this, then a BBB or FCC complaint would be the option. That sends the situation to the corporate level.

I did called before 9/27/2020 and they still charged me. I spoke to a retention specialist that day and was told it was removed and that I would receive a credit on my next bill, but it wasn't. I called back again after I got the next bill and saw that I was charged for payment 2 and spoke to another retention specialist and she said that because I had a balance she couldn't apply the credits. So then I scrounged up enough money to pay the balance off and called back and she said she was adding them. I never saw any credits or refund.

You have two weeks after the season starts to cancel it shannon...
What day did you call? If you called on or before September 27th then you should be able to get a credit back for all the charges since it was AT&T’s error.
So even if you haven’t gotten any credits yet call back and dispute the charges again and let us know what happens.

I called either 9/10 or 9/15 for the first time and for the second time I believe it was after 9/27. I can't remember the exact date at the moment. I will call back again. I do remember that the last time I called they said they didn't show any notes in their system from where I had called the first time. The retention specialist I spoke to the second time said she was putting in the notes that I would receive credits, and that she would put them in as soon as she saw my balance go to zero. It never happened.

NFL Sunday Ticket, like other seasonal sport subscriptions, give you UNTIL the season starts. At that point their system locks out simply removing it and only resolvable with an override if it is in error.
@adm2370
Since all other options were exhausted, now is the time for a FCC/BBB complaint. Good luck.

Oh that could be an issue because the agents go by the notes on the account to determine if you’re eligible for credits so if there aren’t any notes showing that you called in to cancel it they’re going to try to sustain the charges. What made you call in to cancel it, did you see on your bill that you were being billed for the first installment? Also that second agent should have never offered to put in the credits once the balance was $0, that doesn’t even make sense. Agents don’t really follow up on accounts, once you’re off the phone and they close out of your account, they’ll probably never access your account again. When you call back mention that to the next agent and see if that was notated. And besides that, even if you’re past due agents can still issue credits.
Also, did you call any other times? The NFL Sunday Ticket charges were done with months ago. Why are you trying to dispute it now? That’s also going to make it hard for them to issue credits.
