Loss of ABC and NBC

Direct TV has stop providing prime channels ABC and recently, NBC.  These are prime networks and supposed to be "public" TV for everyone.  I want a monthly credit on my bill for the loss of these networks.  You are in "breach" of the arrangement (contract).  Be assured I will be canceling Direct TV very soon if the prime networks (at least NBC) is restored. When will be restored?

@miminsd we're working with Nexstar, the owner of your local stations, to make sure you keep them while protecting you from significant price increases. You can get the latest updates about the negotiation, and get a one-time credit of $10 here TVPromise.com. We apologize for any inconvenience on your service and appreciate your patience. @miminsd Directv is not in breach of anything if you had chosen to read your terms of service or TOS which it clearly states that channels are subject to change at any time. Does not matter what TV provider you choose this will happen again as all TV providers go through these negotiations the only way to avoid this is to get an over-the-air antenna.

I AM NOT an employee of Directv I am a customer just like you. This is a public customer-to-customer forum.

It's the greedy corporations that own local stations (like Nexstar) that pulled your channels. They want more and more and more money to deliver FREE over-the-air stations. It's killing satellite/cable providers as they're forced to pass along those ever-increasing fees.

Learn the truth about these exorbitant retransmission fees here ....

They are public TV channels all you need is an OTA antenna and a digital tuner.

@miminsd

Direct TV has stop providing prime channels ABC and recently, NBC.

DirecTV (not Direct TV) is legally not allowed to provide those channels because they don't have permission. With "recent", I'm guessing at least one of those channels is owned by Nexstar. That local affiliate owner is requesting costs go up for the channel to come back. The channels will only be back once their respective owner permits it.

These are prime networks and supposed to be "public" TV for everyone.

They are only "public" in the sense that they are provided by regular over-the-air (OTA) antenna. This does not mean that the channel owner is obligated to give it to a TV provider for free, or that said provider is obligated to provide it to you.

I want a monthly credit on my bill for the loss of these networks.

If you call DirecTV you 'might' get a one-time courtesy credit for the situation, but they are not required to credit you anything.

You are in "breach" of the arrangement (contract).

Wrong again. The service agreement (contract) states that channels can change at any time. They don't own the channels so there is never any guarantee of any channel always or ever being there. All TV providers have a similar clause for that very reason. Time to educate yourself on how this actually works instead of making up your own reality.

https://www.directv.com/legal/directv-residential-customer-agreement/

Our Programming Changes.Many factors affect the availability, cost and quality of programming and may influence the decision to raise prices and the amount of any increase. These include, among others, programming and other costs, consumer demand, market and shareholder expectations, and changing business conditions. Accordingly, we reserve the unrestricted right to change, rearrange, add or delete our programming packages, the selections in those packages, our prices, technologies used to deliver the Service, and any other Service we offer, at any time.

Be assured I will be canceling Direct TV very soon if the prime networks (at least NBC) is restored. When will be restored?

Your threatening to cancel doesn't magically make Nexstar give the channel back to DirecTV. Your one little account doesn't have that kind of power so you might as well be saying that to the wind. If you want to cancel then call DirecTV and do so as you cannot do that in a public forum.

As for when the channels will be restored, when their respective owners give permission of course. As for when that will be, sorry none of us have a magic crystal ball to see the future.

Instead of making false claims, petty threats, and asking to predict the future all because you don't have a clue how this all works, try using a regular antenna to get the free public broadcast in the meantime. Or watch one of the many other channels you have. In general, we don't go to pay TV for our free (by antenna) locals.

I just read an article in the July 4 LA Times Calendar section that Nexstar not only owns stations they also manage 30 Mission and White Knight owned stations and of course they offered to extend the contract to Oct 31 right in the middle of football season.

Sounds par for the course. Local affiliates having their carriage agreement in the middle of any big sports season allows them to upset many viewers to use them as leverage. Even AMC did something similar a few years back in the middle of The Walking Dead season because of the huge amount of viewers (thankfully was just the 'threat' and that one resolved in time, but still annoying when any channel owner does that).

I received the one time $10 credit over six months ago for the loss of my local Fox station which I’ve never gotten back. Now I lost my local NBC station as well. About time to cancel DirecTV and fix the problem with antenna and streaming services in place of the “total package.”

When will it stop is not just canceling DirecTV, but never going with pay TV ever again. Nobody is immune from this. And Nexstar has become one of the biggest problems for many providers as they are one of the largest (if not the largest) owner of local channels in the country.

You can thank your local channel owner (Nexstar) for their demanding of higher rates for channels that are free over the regular airways. You can use a regular antenna as a backup no matter who your pay TV provider is. Might also get additional sub-channels that aren't carried.

One time credit is a courtesy. No TV provider can guarantee channels always being there, hence the clause they are subject to change at any time. Sounds like your Fox affiliate is owned by someone other than Nexstar (perhaps Mission?) so got a courtesy for that one as well.

You have posted personal info for the hackers/scammers of the world to use.  You need to read the TOS you agreed to when you sighed up for DTV about channels and programing are subject to change at any time.

@wrobles43

If you had bothered to read the thread you would have educated yourself on exactly this kind of situation. The local affiliate owner and DirecTV are going through their carriage negotiation and that owner has decided to withhold the feed to try and get DirecTV to cave to higher rates. This is how it goes.

Premium channels are not the equivalent of local channels. Not even close so that is you being greedy. Plus the premium owners I doubt would agree to being provided free during these situation.

There is no money to return. You are not owed a single cent during this situation. Your package includes locals, but there is no guarantee, no entitlement of any kind, that you get any specific channel. That is the reality.

If you call and speak with DirecTV, sometimes in these situations you might get a courtesy credit. Just be aware this is something they do at their choice, it is not obligated.

Hopefully the situation is shorter than others. In the meantime, watch another channel or plug in a regular antenna if you somehow can't live without those specific channels.
