My local channels were changed without my permission

Since 2002 we have had San Antonio local channels, until yesterday morning. Our receiver was replaced and somehow, the local channels were switched to Austin, Tx. We hate those channels and after spending over an hour with a tech from the Philippines, the issue has not been resolved. I want the San Antonio local channels reinstalled  immediately. Who do I need to talk to about this problem?

I'm tired of the runaround versus actually solving the problem.

20 years ago someone may have 'moved' the op to get the channels they wanted

when the tech replaced the receiver, the address may have been updated/corrected.

My thought also. At one time it was quite common for techs to input an incorrect address so someone could get the locals they wanted.

Juniper: everything posted says that he is getting the correct locals for his location. That means there';s nothing to correct. All we are doing is an autopsy to work out why his locals have been wrong until recently.

I have called DTV 3 times so far, and it appears I was lied to by the representatives of DTV. I'm sick and tired of the runaround at this point.

Did you actually look up your local channels for your address at www.directv.com/locals ?

Those are the channels you should be getting.  If the account was wrong before, there's nothing you can do.

If that site shows you should be getting the channels you want, then DirecTV can fix it.

Yes, I did, thanks. According to that resource, we can receive either Austin or San Antonio local channels since we are located at the border of Comal and Hays counties. In fact, a small portion of our pasture is technically located in Comal county.

I agree it is more likely he was getting the wrong locals until recently. But there is still a chance a error occurred at this time. Zip code (and perhaps county) checked at www.directv.com/locals would verify if the currently received ones are correct (most likely scenario). I just didn't want to assume flat out it was wrong before without information to confirm.

Please go to this link and enter your address. https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress   What county does it say? You will probably need to click a arrow down by your address.

Then go to www.directv.com/locals and enter your zip and select that county. If it matches what you are getting it is correct.

If it does not match the wrong county may be on file call 18005315000 and report it.

Why are we going round in circles on this?  The OP has told us what county he is in and the directv lookup says he has the correct locals.

@TexasBrit

Apologies, I apparently missed the key information earlier in the thread. So sounds like the county was corrected to the exact one they are in. I do recall that many agents from before were surprised you could update the county in the service address, which makes sense as normally when we write down an address county is not needed. For local channels though, it makes a difference.

So to @Texielexie it sounds like the wrong county was listed before and your recent tech visit caught the issue and fixed it. TV is not an industry where we can pick and chose the locals we want, or feel are more appropriate. The FCC regulates that you can only get the locals in your Designated Market Area (DMA). So upon discovering you were getting the wrong ones by a county mismatch, then they were required legally to correct it.

No notice of a change or error in 20 years. 78130 applies to both Comal (San Antonio locals) and Hays (Austin locals). The mistake is on DTV . I appreciate all the responses however, I will continue to fight to have our locals changed back to San Antonio. Thanks

No,it's not on Directv. You have told us you are in Hays county. The database from the FCC shows Hays county gets Austin locals. Directv has to follow the FCC data

DTV doesn't need your permission nor are required to notify you per the clause in the TOS that states that channels and programing are subject to change at any time.
