No contract signed

When we signed up for our direct TV we were told there was a promotion and there was no contract, we could cancel at any time no charge. Now I’m trying to cancel my cable and am being charged a cancellation fee for a contract that was never there to begin with. I have talked to 5 representatives and cannot get a upper management member to call me back to resolve my issue.

All DirecTV accounts start with a 24 month service agreement. The order confirmation emailed lists in clearly. When the tech install service you sign their handheld accepting install, service agreement, and order is correct. The Terms of Service (available on the website) list agreement requirements as well.

Unfortunately that sales agent lied to you. With all the other verification about the agreement, there is no waiving the Early Cancellation Fee (ECF). In the future we can only suggest that no matter what a sales agent (of any company) tells you, is to read the paperwork and ToS.

While AT&T employees do look at forum posts from time to time, we are here to represent the forum with our experiences as customers and do not represent AT&T in any official capacity with our responses and do so on our own time unpaid and off the clock. As employees we are not rewarded nor compensated to participate in these forums This forum is comprised of regular customers to communicate with other customers to offer advice and share experiences same as any other user Although there is a small team of customer care specialists that monitor the forums the sheer volume of posts are simply too many posts for these agents to respond to each one of them.

@Constructive

Highly likely (even AT&T stores still work in a similar fashion of just sending new order). But not impossible it was a bad DirecTV agent through their direct sales over the phone.

If they have paperwork from someone in-person that is different then the official DirecTV order, then they have something to dispute with the 3rd party. Too many people still don't read the paperwork though, even after the last couple hundred years or sales agents who will say anything to make the sale.

@Juniper We never got any paperwork and our 15 year old signed when the tech came out. All of our agreement was over the phone.

You can call DirecTV to resend the order confirmation.

However, there is a huge issue. DirecTV requires an adult 18 years or older to be present for the installation and to sign the handheld. Even if an adult was present, your child should NOT have signed. Though in the end accepting service may still keep the agreement valid as it comes with all intro offers (at least for the last 20 years), I would submit a complaint on the tech as that was a huge violation.
