Refund From Account Closure from Dec 2020 Never Received

I have attempted numerous times over the past couple of years, including being on the phone w/ account representatives for more than 2 hours now today, to secure a refund from Directv after canceling my service.  Apparently, Directv uses Citibank to issue the refund.  But Citi does not have a record of it and whenever I call to inquire about the refund w/ Directv, the customer service reps transferred me three times to Citi versus trying to resolve the issue.  The refund number given to me from Directv does not correspond w/ my account or name on the Citi side (Cit is the refund provider).  How do I go about getting my refund?  I have account statements showing the refund amount (which I believe was incorrectly calculated in any event)?

If there is a credit balance still on the DirecTV account, then you handle with DirecTV. But if they already transferred to Citibank for the prepaid card, then you handle with the card issuer instead.

At 2 years it may be too late. But you could consider a BBB complaint with whichever entity (DirecTV or Citibank) is in possession of the funds to get this resolved.

I know I am owed a refund bc 1) I canceled before the end of the billing cycle; and 2) credit statements received from direct months later into 2021 showed a credit balance.

Canceling before the end of the billing cycle does not entitle you to a credit. They changed that back in the beginning of 2019, so your cancellation in 2020 is not covered under the old policy. You might be owed a credit for something else, but not prorating the bill.

Here is the notice from 2018 advising of that change.

Please read this if you receive DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse® TV, AT&T Internet, AT&T Phone, and/or AT&T Fixed Wireless service(s). We want to remind you that you’re billed in advance for recurring service(s) and/or programming charges and applicable fees based on the terms of your current service agreement(s) with us. Starting January 14, 2019, subject to applicable laws, we’re updating your agreement(s) to include your recurring service(s)/programming charges and fees won’t be prorated if you cancel the above service(s) on any day other than the last day of your billing cycle. Your service(s) will continue until the end of your billing cycle but you won’t get a refund (prorated credits) for any remaining days left in your billing cycle. For products not listed above, refer to their terms of service for more information.

Questions about this change? Go to att.com/ProrationPolicy for more information and to see the revised section of your service agreement(s).

Be that as it may, but what moots everything is the statements indicating a negative balance and representations that a credit was being sent via a contracted issuer w/ Directv.

Hi DIRECTV Help:  I don't have the chat icon to the right of the bell.  Just my account icon (circle w/ a J).  Is there another way to connect?

If you had a negative balance after the service month started over, so the final bill, then that would have been for something else. I would have the bill checked to makes sure why there was a credit balance to verify there was supposed to be something to refund to begin with.

Strange, I have seen occasionally where DirecTV offers a direct message (DM) but the DM icon is not showing though you are logged in. I would definitely try clearing cache/cookies or even trying a different browser.
