Scammers that will not go away

I got scammed over the weekend and once I realized I was scammed I told them I was contacting ATT/DirecTV & eBay & the FTC about the scam.  They keep calling me to try to make things right but want more money.  I can't believe they think I am that stupid at this point.

Att/DirecTV/eBay all just apologized and said there was nothing they could do.  I feel that they should try harder to help the customer and to keep them happy.

Anyway, once I have the opportunity I will change service providers because I think it was way too easy for these scammers to get in to my ATT account.

DTV sent these in November and December 2020 to all receivers.  All your info is available on the dark web for anyone to buy.  Since they scammed you once they figure they can do it again so you are now a marked person and they will sell your info to others.

Soooooo.....you get a 'cold call' from someone claiming to be DirecTV.  (newsflash: CID numbers can be 'spoofed')  They say they can cut your bill in half and all you have to do is pay up front with Ebay gift cards.  How am I doing????

Does ANYTHING about this scenario sound fishy to you?  They get your info off the 'dark web' (ain't technology grand?) and you see nothing suspicious about this?

"If it's too good to be true, it probably is....."  Old sayings get to be old sayings for a reason.

FYI:  This is not a problem exclusive to AT&T.  It is so prolific that the FTC has devoted an informational page:  PAYING SCAMMERS WITH GIFT CARDS

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

Companies cannot do anything about you falling for a scam. That is like blaming the police that you allowed a thief into your home.

People need to be more protective of their information. Those scam calls play a good con to get you to fess up the details, possibly starting with just enough legitimate info they bought off the "dark web" to put you at ease.

Remember AT&T, DirecTV, eBay, and any other company are not the police. So there is nothing they can do for you falling for a criminal's story. You want them to try harder and keep you happy? How when they are not at fault and have no control over your falling for it?
