Stop showing ads during pause!

STOP displaying ads during pause. We hit pause for a reason that doesn't include being pitched to without consent. STOP the ads.

Not gonna happen. If you don't want to see DirecTV's ads, you'll need to disconnect your DVR from the internet.

If you don't raise (Edited per community guidelines) and complain, nothing ever changes. If enough customers get (Edited per community guidelines) off and start saying so, there's always the possibility of the "squeaky wheel" getting the attention. So squeak for heavens sakes users. Who wants to see advertisements when we pause a program? That's not the service we are paying for. They should be offering discounts, or paying, for hosting their revenue-generating ads. It's a double dip. They charge their media customers to show their ads, and then charge us for watching them. Not right.

Since most people don't pause so they can sit there and watch a still picture, it is very unlikely this option will go away. It is a way to announce other programs people might be interested in. Otherwise they can just ignore the pause screen as normal.

The pause screen adds are downloaded from internet. So the only way to completely avoid them is to disconnect your system from your router.

Oh, Juniper, I get your point. I either sit there and watch the ads during pause or I can ignore them. Oh, and the ads are downloaded from the internet. Really, I had no idea. Thanks so much for your thoughtful insights. If it is an option, it can go away. So can you.

Some people don't realize that the ads are downloaded, so just making sure you had that as would be a way for you to avoid them. By disconnecting from the internet it goes back to the default screen saver. So was just trying to be helpful. If you already understand the option then great.

Advertisements are how businesses run, and doubtful there are going to be any big changes to that. Personally a logo or advertisement on the screen saver makes no difference to me as I wouldn't be watching the screen during that point either way.

My post was to be helpful and give perspective, so there was no reason to be snide. I will not go away as you suggest. This is a public forum and I will continue to participate. I simply choose to keep my posts as constructive as I can and at least maintaining a polite discussion.

How do you disconnec the DVR from the internet? Will you still be able to use all the features if you do this?

Not only that but it jumps past where you were paused and you have to go back or in my case it just jumped ahead and would not let me go back at all. This is so annoying and irritating. It is just another way to make money. I am close to cancelling my service over this crap.

For Pete’s sake, if I hit pause, I want it to stay on pause, not show me (Edited per community guidelines) AT&T spam!  Fix this.  I hate it! Makes me want to drop AT&T.

Really? That's a totally unprofessional attitude. I pay for this service. When I pause on Wheel of Fortune, it is to study the puzzle, not see advertisements. You are a horrible employee, with your snarky comments. If you were my employee, you would be disciplined. What happened to the customer is always right? Those days are long gone I guess. What is your name so I can report the reason I am leaving AT&T to the cancellation department?

Oh, and you edited my comment.  I did not know the letters B and S were obnoxious enough to warrant deleting. What a sad day. Freedom of speech attacked everywhere you look.

@Mcosok

Since this is an intended feature, not a bug or other technical issue, there is nothing to fix. Pause screen advertisements are the norm. You either disconnect from internet to go back to the logo screen saver, or call and cancel service if it offends you so.

There is no "professional attitude" here. This is a public forum of other customers, and yes the occasional employee off-the-clock. You want professional, then you call customer support. The "employee" tag just means they have more internal source of information and knowledge, not that they must conduct themselves in a "professional" manner. They are free to speak just like any other customer.

We didn't edit your comment as other users do not have that control. The website is designed with a automatic filter, like many other websites. Certainly it is not perfect and there have been ongoing updates to the site to try and improve that.

As for what happened to "the customer is always right", well customers abused that and don't understand what it truly means. It does not give customers the power to dictate business decisions. If you were shopping at a clothes store, you decide what is good fashion for you and purchase accordingly. If you don't like pause screen advertisements, you can make your decision by canceling and no longer paying for the service. Too many people think that phrase gives them all the power (in this day and age a lot of them are known as "Karens"). Your control is shopping elsewhere as you choose.

And no user on here will give you their name as that is per the forum's rules for everyone's privacy and protection. This is not customer support so you are not getting official treatment here. Anyway a simple "see ya" shouldn't force you to cancel, as you should not be so easily influenced and instead can make your own mature decisions.

@Mcosok  you are probably unaware of scammers with names like at_tguruhelp123 posting on here leaving a number to call claiming to be At&T they posted on your post and my response was to them not you. However at some point the post was deleted either by the forum bot or a moderator but @Juniper  is 100 %correct in his response as well

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like I may be able to find a different tuner and that may solve my issue.  I was with you until the mature decision comment.  That was uncalled for. As consumers, the only power we have anymore is to vote with our wallet.  So yes, a snarky comment is more than enough to make me leave. There are too many other options lately.  It’s not like this is the power company and I’m gonna freeze without it.

By different "tuner" I infer from context you mean another service provider (since your tuners on your DVR would all be attached to the pause screen advertisements).

If a single snarky comment is enough to make you leave, then yes in my opinion I find it immature. One small thing you don't like said and run away it is. Fair enough on deciding to leave over factors of your service, but just because of what someone said is a bit weak-willed to me. So the response, though blunt, was meant to give perspective, not to offend. If it helps then great, and if not oh well.

It's not just the snarky comment mind you. It is the forced advertising/reduced functionality of the pause feature. At the minimum, there should be a setting which allows me to retain the paused screen for say 5 minutes before it jumps to screen saver/advertisement mode. Forced advertising in 10 seconds and snarky comments are in combination enough to make a change. As for the other tuner, I was referring to the TiVo tuner. I need to do more research, but I believe this may solve my pause issue at the low low price of many hundreds of dollars. :(

Well I'd be totally fine if it took 7 minutes for mine to come up. Unfortunately, it's like 10-15 seconds. I looked for a setting. I did not find one.
