Unauthorized pay per view charges
I've been dealing with this for over a month by speaking to at least 5 representatives for hours on end. There are charges for pay per view on my account that I didn't authorize. We've had direct tv for 10+ yrs and we are NOT pay per view people. While I was on the phone with att, I was getting emails showing someone renting movies on my account. It wasn't me...I was talking to them on the phone trying to figure out what was happening. This hacker also added stars, hbo, Cinemax. I was able to get those stopped but I still have $55 in rental fees that I cannot get them to fix!! I'm making 1 more call.....then I'm switching to Dish Network! So OVER THE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

hackers can’t order anything. There are 3 ways to order. From the box using the remote, the phone associated with the account and calling and ordering. Even if a hacker was able to hack your account the movies would only be available to watch from your TVs

I'm telling you This is what happens. I receive an email saying "enjoy your direct TV movie". Im sitting right here in my living room with my husband. No kids or anyone else in our house. The movie shows up on our list but neither of us rented anything. The only way I know is because of the email. Whoever is doing this is not in my house and not using my phone or tv. Something is wrong. Who rents "Sanford and son"?
Today's movie was "the soldier protocol". No idea what that is but charged $5.99 to my account. The last time I was working at the hospital, my husband was at home on the phone with direct tv.....and I got 3 emails for movie rentals. There's no way we were doing it. He was talking to them and I was working in the emergency room. It was 8:00 on a Sunday night. I was freaking out and made him call immediately cause at that time they were renting $20 movies, not $6 movies. No one can figure out what's going on but it has to be stopped

constructive.....the service representative said they could be watching these movies using an app on a different device so you are incorrect when you say only on my tv.

I would go into Parental Controls on all your receivers and set Spending Limits to $0. That way not a single PPV could be ordered from the remote, Impulse PPV (IPPV), without the Parental Control PIN. You can also check purchase history to check any IPPV orders. Remember purchase history and Parental Controls are separate per receiver.
The bill should also list specifically when and how any PPVs were ordered (or perhaps found on an access card with returned equipment). That is if it is a bill from DirecTV itself, as some "joint bills" have more simplified info.
You can also see about DirecTV disabling OPPV, so that other methods cannot be used to order PPV (Online account, over the phone, text ordering). At least in the old account system they could remove that option, but uncertain if still an option in the new account system they migrated us to recently.

3 weeks in a row I have had items added to my account. I changed my password after week 2, and now today the Black Panther Movie was purchased. I called, and again they helped to eliminate the charge, but offered no help in how to stop this from happening. She said to just monitor my account every day. Wow, what a service. Everyday I have to monitor my account. Nope, think I will go back to a better service.

You can set parental controls on each receiver (Clients share protections from main Genie). Put Spending Limits to $0 (as is per PPV, not a monthly or total limit). That only protects ordering from the remote. Consider changing your online password and the one you use when you call DirecTV.
As thread is from 3 years ago it will be CLOSED
