@Constructive it will be disconnected or not? I'm teaching remotely from home and had wanted to include television in my lessons since most students use directv, but didn't want to cause any more hardship on families.

Due to the massive lay offs here in Las Vegas , I am asking ATT/ Direct Tv for a little leniency of paying my bill for the next 3 months?

I have been a loyal longstanding member a very long time. I don't want to cancel . I need my TV for entertainment and news during this quarantine.

Can ATT ? Direct TV assist in helping me with this problem ?

Thank You

TV service will not be disconnected but the TV package may be downgraded to minimum service

The response above from att help means that YES service could be interupted. "Minimum service" is a level 1 interruption it the goes to a level 2 which is disconnection of service which is an automatic process so they're response is pretty much irrelevant.

In the very uncertain times, I have to ask, will you also be waiving disconnections for direct tv? I am a mom of six kids and while having internet is nice, so is having television for the girls and I to be able to watch family programs together. We are self quarantined in our home and with not wanting to get out to put money on my card to pay my bill and chance exposure to this very aggressive virus, i am concerned about my service being disconnected if I do not make a payment or risk catching this virus. So will direct tv be included in the non disconnection as well?

@Brigette1820

There is mention of DirecTV in several spots. You have to expand out the individual topics. Avoiding service interruption is one thing that does not affect DirecTV. AT&T has not abandoned them, simply Pay TV is a luxury. So only services considered essential get the additional protection.

For example on that very page: https://about.att.com/pages/COVID-19.html

How to Request Waiver of Late Fees and Overage Charges

April 2, 2020

We know that many people are experiencing economic hardships as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. AT&T is keeping you connected 24/7. As part of this effort, we’ll waive:

• Late payment fees for postpaid wireless, home phone or broadband residential, U-verse TV or DIRECTV customers

• Domestic postpaid wireless plan overage charges for data, voice or text for residential postpaid wireless customers

The waiver applies to these fees or charges you may incur between March 13, 2020, and May 13, 2020, due to economic hardship related to the coronavirus pandemic. Have your user ID and password ready and click here to submit a waiver request.

Please allow one to two billing cycles to see your credit, if applicable.

So don't just breeze over the topics, expand them out for the details.

I have been a DirecTV customer for going on ten years have been out of work since last Monday not of my choosing due to the coronavirus outbreak and I disconnected my TV on Thursday but yet they tell my friend who has DirecTV we're not asking for any bills for 60 days so do to that I will not be renewing my DirecTV account I will go with Xfinity or Dish Network my bill keeps going up every month anyway so DirecTV can send me a final bill and I would not recommend them to anyone

@Jsimerly9 Don't go to Comcast/Xfinity. They just cut our TV services off this morning over a $208 bill when we called last week and were told they were doing extensions until May 13th. We've never been late or missed a payment. They said they'd be more than happy to turn services back on but not until we paid the $208. Wow....

AT&T has not abandoned DirecTV customers. They are getting waiver on late fees for a specific time period. But it is still entertainment so if you still don't pay then you get shut off.

So you want it then you pay for it. If you can't pay, then interruption is the natural conclusion after so much time. TV is not a requirement of life. Water, communication, etc. are considered basic necessities so they get additional options of help.

So TV is not a necessity. Though for some I begin to think it is an addiction.

I have personally asked for the banner info to be updated because it DOES NOT address the question about direcTV being interupted, however, my personal feeling is that , YES , it will be interupted since pay tv is a luxury not a necessity. There are posts by some people that their service has been interupted so my thoughts are pretty accurate.

I just had a horrible experience with direct tv AT&T. After waiting over 1 hour to speak to a rep let them know I’m currently jobless and would be late on making a payment due to the current covid 19 pandemic, before I could even explain my situation the rep ask for a full payment. I’m appalled of the current approach these reps have. My Rep Oscar sounded like a robot demanding a payment. I cannot believe the level of disrespect I felt. I had to hang up. AT&T direct tv needs to do a better job on training these reps and talking to people going through real life problems. I will be calling to cancel my service ASAP

Your answer does not address my issue! Your reps are unprofessional, rude persistent, and have no compasión, instead of worrying about people paying small unpaid fees AT&T should focus on the true meaning of customer service and What that means! Because clearly the rep I spoke to was more concerned about a $40 unpaid fee after I had to explain to him numerous times that I will be payinf ASAP , that’s all he was worried about! Your service is garbage just like your customer service!

New Member

I’m not sure exactly how your convo went with AT&T support but I do know I’ve been with Them now for over 6years and every time I ever called to ask about postponing payment due to issue and I’d end up explaining it to The robot in beginning that directs your call, then I get an agent and immediately they say “I notice your payment is due would you like to make a payment right now?” Which I also agree comes off very rude because some of us who are calling to postpone payment due to finance issues are already embarrassed that we have to call because we don’t have funds to pay right away, so being asked that first can make certain people anxious or irritated easily. I don’t understand why that’s always first rather then just asking The reason for our call.

Now yesterday I had to call AT&T because my sons brand new iPhone 11pro says no SIM card, I actually went to store to see if They could troubleshoot after doing it myself at home and the guy takes it out puts new one in and says nope it isn’t working so you should take it to Best Buy- I was astonished because it’s an Apple phone purchased through att so why would I take it somewhere else? He said at that time there wasn’t anything else he could do because the computer in phone was shot and won’t work again. So I leave and go home to call att support to try to get better help- I was shocked when the lady answered after just a few minutes, she was super nice and helpful but unfortunately she had to transfer me to another department for my specific issue - I then sat on hold for over 3hrs (I have proof) to finally get a woman who then says she has to transfer me again to warranty dept, Finally after another hour I get another agent who says I have to call Apple support or go in store (which r all closed due to virus) because Apple doesn’t allow AT&T to replace devices through warranty because They want to do it Themselves personally for data on the issues their phones have. So I understand your frustration because I now have to spend more time tomorrow on phone- and Th is isn’t the first time I’m gone through hoops to get answers or help, even when I pay over $300 a month for 5 phones and been with them for over 6 years!

Sorry for length I guess I needed to vent too

Steps are being taken to accommodate people during this time. They have a page dedicated to all the updates for the different services amidst the Covid-19 situation.

https://about.att.com/pages/COVID-19.html

Yes checking on a late bill up-front is the job of the agent. But once you mention you cannot pay at that time, then they should move forward with a payment arrangement if your account allows it, or giving you the info you need so you can be aware of the process. But if they asked for payment again and again, that would be beyond reasonable.

Sorry I cannot offer more than my well wishes, and their page that is being updated as the Covid-19 situation continues, as I am just another customer in this public forum. And remember, anyone with the "employee" tag is posting on their own time (off the clock) so is just there to show they should have more knowledge and expertise but with no official capacity here.
