Direct tv receiver return

I received a replacement for my old receiver as it stopped working I was told I need to return either to a UPS store or Fedex location. The nearest is 60 miles away from me but when I explained to this to the social media rep she told me I have no other options? So I have to drive two hours round trip to return a receiver? Thanks in advance for any input

What model is the box? Just in case it might not be returnable.

DirecTV's return process has updated. Double check if there is a participating shipping location within reasonable distance.

How To Return The Equipment

Go to a FedEx or UPS location with your account #. No need to bring a box or label, the equipment will be boxed it up & shipped out at no charge. The process takes less than 5 minutes.

Find FedEx Office locations at www.fedex.com/attreturns.

Find The UPS Store locations at www.theupsstore.com/locations.

If the check reconfirms you are over 10 miles away from a participating location, then you call DirecTV to use the old process. They ship to your physical service address by FedEx a prepaid return box. You use USPS (not UPS) for the return.

Thank you, it's a Make: DIRECTV

Model: HR34-700

Serial: G28CA3BN203860

I did check both sites for the nearest location, if I was able to drop off at a regular UPS, no problem but as I indicated the nearest of either location is 60 miles away. I'll attempt to call them. Thank you for your response.

HR34 is the 1st generation Genie. That has been non-returnable for years because of the problems it had, which were fixed in the later two generations (HR44/HR54).

The HR34 gets recycled. Just make sure to remove access card first as they might send a prepaid envelope for return. Otherwise if no envelope within 30 days, then securely dispose of like you would a credit card.

So they might send an envelople for the access card? Good to know that the receiver has had issues for years hopefully that's related to my issues over the past few years and the new one will be better. Thanks againf or your help

The 1st Genie's issues were in the hardware design. It was very known for being slow, plus overheating. The later 2 were redesigned with improved hardware (especially a faster processor), and more efficient cooling (resulting in a sleeker box).

If you have any Mini Genie Clients, it is suggested to use your next free upgrade to replace one with an HDDVR. More capability (2 tuners and 500GB recording space) with no difference in monthly cost. A more reliable setup since an HDDVR unlike a Client is not dependent on the Genie to work, though still can share recordings of course.

Just don't "upgrade" to the Genie-2 (HS17) server tower. It forbids HDDVRS, which limits the setup by design. And though better than when launched, there are still some bug concerns.
