Direct Tv satellite with one receiver and use App on other tvs

I called today to cancel my Directv service and go to YouTube tv to save a ton of money each month.  The representative told me I could keep one receiver and use the Directv app on my other smart TVs instead of paying for each receiver.  He deactivated all but one receiver and now I can’t get service on any tv except the one with the receiver. I have 5 smart TVs of various brands and none have the direct tv app - some have the Directv streaming app but we can’t login to that and it appears that is a different service.   One tv does have the app, I can login but the remote won’t do anything once the app is open.

Hi @Alisap, we're sorry you're having issues watching on your other TVs. We have a technical team on stand-by ready to help. Send us the phone number associated with your account and/or the best number to reach you at in a DM.

@Alisap

That rep didn't give the best info.

You can use the DirecTV app on streaming devices. It uses the same login as your account on their website. If you've never signed into the account it will have issues so that must be done first. Plus be a different login if you have any AT&T services (because of problems from starting and then later stopping their unified logins).

Each TV you remove from the service will save you $7. That is the same savings whether it is a full receiver (Genie, HDDVR, HD non-DVR), Client box (Mini Genie, Gemini), or Client built in the TV without its own box (RVU TV "DirecTV Ready").

The app will be limited as DirecTV is built for satellite. So only using the receiver has full content. As I recall it is up to 5 concurrent streams.

Used to be that DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM had separate apps. But they made a new one that is used regardless of which service you have. So make sure you have the current one downloaded as it is a new app instead of updating the old one.

As a note, the 'smart' TV app (especially for Samsung) tends to be sub-standard in performance from using a dedicated streaming box (Roku, Firestick, etc.).

Not all sat channels can be streamed to the DTV app.

It should be noted you will be unable to view recordings using the app.
