directv genie 2 HS17....how to record programs to save space
On past Directv equipment (24, 34), I just recorded from DVR onto DVR recorder. Now my problem is two-fold: the DVR recorder is no more, and I now have the Directv Genie 2 HS17 model. Can you possibly advise me how I can transfer programs onto a laptop, say via Windows?
I'm thinking the answer might lie among all those badges!
thanks for your help!

As you probably know, the HS17 Server has no audio/video outputs. And your mini Genie Client boxes likely have only an HDMI OUT, not composite video that would work with a DVD Recorder or PC's video capture hardware/software. If you want to archive those recordings you'll need an HDMI-to-Composite video adapter, along with a suitable PC video capture hardware/software.

AFAIK all minis have the A/V out to connect a composite 10 pin din cable to a DVD recorder except the C61K.

Btw, had to create another account, so Chuck boy is now graclarry.
Also took a photo of genie but could not upload, no matter what I tried.
Thanks for your continued help!

You need the composite 10 pin din cable as stated in my first post, DTV may send you one or buy one online.

@Graclarry, we know how important it is to enjoy your recorded programming.
We'd like to share that the recordings are encrypted to the Genie or Genie 2/HD-DVR that recorded them and cannot be transferred to an external device due to copyright restrictions.
In case further assistance regarding your DIRECTV products is required, we'll be here to help!

The recordings can be copied in SD and real time using the composite cable to a video capture device connected to a computer/laptop or DVD burner.

@Graclarry
Mini Genie Clients all have HDMI. Look at your box again.
The Genie-2 (HS17) doesn't go on a TV so doesn't have HDMI or A/V. It is a server tower that runs the setup.

Is it a 4k client (c61k) that you have? They do not have a 10 pin component/composite port, only HDMI.
