dvr nightmare need help

I need some help/answers for a pickle I'm in. I received a call from a tenant at my house (I'm on vacation) saying there was a problem with the DVR. there were numerous messages in the mail box indicating DVR not working need to call. Not being able to call I went online to re-authorize, shouldn't that work? After doing that I told the person to unplug to reset. Now a message comes up to insert a valid access card and nothing works. What the.... Anybody have any suggestions since I'll be away for a long period and want this problem solved. I also checked online and my account is up to date for payment. It even showed  under my equipment that the receiver that was to be re-authorize Everything was fine over a week ago. I'm frustrated and need help

That's an old receiver, and it could be dead. There could also be other issues with the installation that could be difficult to diagnose through this forum, especially since you aren't there to have you check things.  In your position I would recommend calling DIRECTV and spending the $50 for a service call to just get it fixed.

The access card may not be making a good connection inside the slot. Just have them pull it out and stick it back in. If that doesn't resolve, pull it out and reset (unplug) the receiver then reinsert the card.

I had the tuners redone not long ago, and it was working fine till a week ago. I've never pulled out the card in 6 yrs till now, so I doubt its the card. keep firing suggestions. as for being a dead unit. when I it is unplugged  and go through the steps, I find it funny that my signal is over 95 on transponders, but the next step finds an error saying it cant find channels. there has to be something that can be done without bothering DTV. I find it frustrating with them.

As in post #2, I recommend you call Directv, see about upgrading the receiver and have a tech deliver and install it.  There is no way you are going to fix this long distance acting as a 3rd party.  No charge for me, but  Directv will nip you for $50.

a Bump,

I noticed when i found a menu for status is states account closed yet how can that be when my other 2 receivers are working, obviously no account closed. Is this a DTV way to get rid of series 2 units. I like my unit, how can it just go dead. Does anyone know if you can cancel service via an email, cause i really don't want to talk to anyone from DTV

peds48 is absolutely correct.  You must call them to cancel.  And be prepared for some sweet offers to entice you to stay.

I don't believe there's any way of ordering a service call by e-mail either.

No offense but something is missing here.  You are in full communication via Internet but cannot make a phone call?  And, you've been fiddling with this for just short of a full month.  You might get better advice if you layed the full details on us.
