gemini/genie power off

I just installed the free Gemini Co-locate package along with my Genie Gen 2, Model HR44-500.  Everything works fine except for one glaring issue.  These two boxes are designed to dovetail together and work jointly.  When I press "Off" on the new Gemini remote, the Gemini goes off, the TV goes off, but the Genie does not go off.  Pressing "On" all three devices come on.  Research indicates this is just the way it works, and there is no fix.  I can't believe the "engineers" allowed this to happen, since the two boxes are designed to work as a single unit.  The result is I must keep my old Genie controller around for the sole purpose of turning the Genie off (no other reason to have it).  This is nutty.  Surely there is some kind of "work around" or solution to this issue.  What is it?

The co-locate setup is fairly new. The 2nd generation Genie (HR44) is right at the change of the major software the boxes use, as was updated to the new software as opposed to the HR54 which starts on the new software.

If someone can offer a fix/workaround, that would be great. But I suspect this is a situation of the boxes weren't originally built for co-locate.

AFAIK the Gemini uses Bluetooth to control it and it doesn't include the IR codes needed to turn off the HR44.  You can try unpairing Bluetooth to see if the needed codes are included to control both in IR.  You can also turn on the power saver mode on the HR44 that will return it to standby mode after 4 hours of non remote use.

You could cover the IR sensor on the Genie with some black tape to prevent it from coming on with the Gemini remote. It would still come on with the Genie remote if for some reason you want to turn it on, assuming it is set to RF.  But why do you care if the Genie is on or not? The Gemini works the same whether the Genie is on or off.

The genie uses the same Watts whether it is on or in standby?

An HR44 uses about 15.4 watts in standby and 16.4 when turned on.

In standby mode the HR44 doesn't output video or audio which is the 1 watt difference.

My HR44/500 uses 19 watts on, and 17.9 watts off/standby.

It's curious that the Gemini will turn the Genie on via the CAT5 cable, but not off.  I'm sure the engineers would not have preferred it this way.  Must be some deep technical explanation that I don't need to know.  At only a 1.1 watt difference I won't worry about it (except when on vacation).

The Gemini can get a tuner from the HR44 whither it is on or in standby so there is no need for it to be turn it on. It could be HDMI-CEC turning it on.

How I do it --Turning it on with the RC73 - Then I press List on the Gemini Remote, and it turns on the Gemini - I turn everything of -I use the RC73 Off and everything is turned off.

I do not use the Gemini remote on/off button for anything.

Yesterday I created a post here regarding this subject.  It showed OK, but had a typo.  I edited the post to fix the typo, and then it looked OK.  The post has now disappeared.  What happened?

Hi @rgp1942, we're sorry you're having issues with the remote and your DIRECTV receivers. Please check if there is an HDMI cable still connected to the HR44-500 receiver, and if there is, please remove it. Let us know if this works.

Co-located means the Gemini is connected as a separate receiver -the hr44-still is able to display a picture with HDMI as well as the Gemini.

using both on one tv would require the TV input to be changed or if using a AVR the AVR ort would need to be changed.

I have a HR44-200 Co-Located with a Gemini thru an AVR - my Previous post is how I Turn my whole setup on & off -The GEMINI Uses Bluetooth the Hr44 Does NOT so I never use the power button on or off on the Gemini remote and it works just fine as I have described.
