Genie and autotune

before getting the Genie yesterday, the old receiver/remote had a function called autotune, where you could tune a program on a daily/weekly/once basis. Does Genie have this and where can i find this function? Not always lookling to record future programs, just liked having the ability to tune channels without having to write it down or remember.

No Directv DVRs have autotune, they never have. Just set the DVR to record the episode, then delete it if you don't want it.

Only non DVRs have auto tune.

DirecTV DVRs, including Genie (and their associated Clients of course), do not have Autotune. The recording feature replaces this.

Because Autotune is a niche feature, most agents don't think to mention the difference when upgrading to a DVR model (if they are even aware of Autotune to begin with).

If you have a regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54), not the Genie-2 (HS17), you can still have full receivers (HDDVR and HD non-DVR) on your other TVs instead of Clients. So in a multi-TV home you could have a mix of equipment to provide recording on some TVs and Autotune on others. Though the boxes with Autotune cannot record themselves, they can watch what the others have recorded.

I really miss the AutoTune feature.  I use my tv as my alarm clock and I prefer to wake up to the morning news.  I understand the difference between recording a program to watch later and automatically changing channels so you can watch live tv without missing anything.   These boxes are basically mini-computers so there is technically no reason why this feature is not programmed.

Hi @HooviesMom we understand how you're feeling and we appreciate your feedback.

As soon as the feature is back, we're going to advise all of our customers and you can also keep an eye on our web page for future updates.

Just being a "mini computer" doesn't mean the feature is technically available. Autotune was designed for boxes with a single tuner. HDDVRs deal with 2, and the Genie not only deals with 5 but has to have them dynamic so that Clients can take one anytime.

Computers doesn't mean that everything is compatible. Until a DirecTV programmer figures out how to make the change and have it be an economical update to future boxes then this is how it works.

SophiaM, do you not understand your own company's products? The feature can't be "back" as it was never gone. DVRs (and Clients by extension) of any type have never had Autotune to begin with. The non-DVRs still have Autotune so was not gone from them.
