Genie2 doesn't see my TV has 4k resolution
Genie2. 4k Genie mini. Samsung "8000" 4k TV. When turning all on, DTV settings doesn't show 4k resolution available. I can set it manually. But when I turn it on the next time, it doesn't keep it.
This problem is as old as my TV, 3 years. I have never gotten solution from DTV or Samsung, they both blame each other. The TV is DTV officially supported. There was a short period of time when it was Ok, but with a Genie software update (2 years ago), it came back and remains. I have done all the obvious things (I'm a computer engineer). Its time to ask again.

The Genie-2 (HS17) still deals with post launch bugs, including suporting the Mini Genie Client C61K (the only 4K model, unlike the regular C61 or the C61W). I hope it is a line they move away from, or come out with a 2nd generation model that doesn't launch until more beta testing is done and is not built restrictive.
No disrespect to you being a computer engineer, but what is "obvious" to one person may not be to another. So is helpful if you specifically list what troubleshooting you have already done. So I will not assume you have done something that I cannot verify.
Yes there is the normal red button reset and power cycle, though is suggested to do the Genie-2 (HS17) first and only when complete then the Client.
Verify HDMI cable is secure and free of debris on both ends, and that the coax is finger tight.
Try another HDMI cable.
What is the exact model of your Samsung 8000 series TV?
Have you checked for any updates for the TV itself?
If you swap HDMI, Cable, port, or the TV itself for testing, remember that DirecTV's 4K requires HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, and 60 FPS.
Try having other HDMI devices on the TV unplugged to test.
Make sure you are not using both a Mini Genie Client and RVU on the same TV. Not only are they not meant to work together, but you are paying more as that is 2 Additional TV/Client fees for the same TV. (Your prior post is still in the forum mentioning using a Mini Genie and RVU on the same TV, so just covering all bases).
If TV supports it, make sure that HDMI-CEC is off. DirecTV boxes should only be in a outlet or regular surge protector, not a "smart" power strip. These two convenience options tend not to play well with DirecTV equipment.
It is possible that the issue is not solely on one side or the other if there is something about their individual updates that don't sync well with each other. Afterall, 4K is still in the early days. More TVs are made that are labeled 4K then there is true 4K content, since most is upscaled. DirecTV only has a couple channels in true 4K (plus the few PPVs).
Personally I would have suggested staying with the 3rd generation Genie (HR54) as that also supports the 4K Client, but has more reliability. Since it also allows full receivers, you are not hard capped to 7 tuners like with the Genie-2 (HS17) which forbids everything but Clients.
Other users will try and help as much as they can, based on the exact info you provide.
