Getting DirecTV sound through home theater

Equipment:

TV- Samsung HL-T5076S

Home Theater/DVD - Samsung HT Z310

Box - H25-100

I currently have HDMI cables running from box to tv & home theater to tv.  I do not not know what the proper configuration would be for getting sound through the home theater speakers while watching tv channels.  I thought an optical cable from the box to the Home Theater/DVD player might do the trick but they appear to have different inputs/ooutputs.

You were correct with your idea on connections, but the H25 only has digital coax connection not optical. If your home theater system only has optical input, you just need a digital coax to optical converter. Just google it and you will find several suppliers.

in the meanwhile, you can connect the H25 with red and white RCA plugs.   that will give stereo or synthesized surround sound (if your HTB has the decoders) while you get the converter that texasbrit suggested.

Monoprice is a good source for coax-to-optical audio converters.

Thanks for the info guys.  I tried your suggestions but am still having issues.

I purchased this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I98ZQY/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details

And this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/140357286849?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I connected the digital audio cable from the H25 to the converter and an optical cable from the converter to the home theater but am still not getting sound when I go to the D-IN function(Digital In).  The sound works on the DVD, IPOD, & Radio settings.  Any other ideas?

It looks like the adapter you purchased from Amazon is opposite from what you need.  The coax should be the "input" and optical should be "output".  Check out this item: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&p_id=2947&seq=1&format=2

Yes, I'm using one of these exact models on mine.  Works great.

HDMI out from the H25-100 to a Yamaha Media Controller input 1 - HDMI out to TV from the Yam works for me. Use HDMI 1.4 cables, and they're cheap on the bay or any of the online sellers.

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.
