HR21/700 installation

I upgraded to HD DVR but there were no installation instructions for the connections on the back of the HD DVR. I hooked up the BBC to the sat 1 input but if I'm recording I can't watch another program. It is nota SWM dish. What do I need to do to record one channel and watch another at the same time?

You'll need a second RG6 coax cable from your dish to your DVR location.  Each tuner needs its own coax cable from the dish/multiswitch.  You'll also need a second BBC module for that second tuner input.  For ~$50 DirecTV will send someone to do this for you.

Wouldn't Directv just send you a BBC for your DVR?  Running another cable is very simple,  just make sure it is solid copper RG6.

True, BBC's are free. But suggesting that "running another cable is very simple" is a rather bold statement. We have no idea about the specifics of the OP's current wiring setup or cabling skills.  And a $50 service visit might be much easier and possibly even cheaper.
