HR24 b Band converter
Do I need B band converters to use my HR 24 receiver with an 18" oval dish for SD programming? I'm taking my receiver from the house where it is connected to a Slimline 3 dish and using it with an 18" dish for my motor home. SD only is not a problem. Thanks for the advice.

Nope, but DTV is shutting down the SD MPEG2 channels.

the B Band converter is not needed. But you do need a new dish. DirecTV is shutting down the MPEG-2/SD-only feeds so that 18" dish is obsolete. Going forward you need either a slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount or the Winegard Trav'ler.
Change in an era and RV users are hit the most by that update. Remember, SD-only TVs haven't been made in over a decade.

Thanks for the info. I originally had a D12 receiver in the house with an 18" dish. Would take the receiver back and forth between the house and the coach. Around 2018/2019 Directv contacted me and said they were upgrading the 101 satellite and moving HD to it. They offered me an HR24 at no charge. All I had to do was install a second coax line for tuner 2, which I did and everything worked fine in SD. I have a King Quest auto acquisition dish on the coach, it worked fine with the HR24 for a while. Now it can't find a signal. I have a second home bought in 2019. I had Directv do the mover package and they came and installed a slimline at the second home. I go back and forth between houses, switching between SD and HD. So I'm taking my 18" dish, mounting it on a platform and setting it up in the yard next to my slimline. I've got the coordinates for elevation/azimuth. I'm hoping to get a picture from the 18" dish, that way I'll know that there is a problem with the King Quest. Without getting technical what happened to Directv putting the HD channels on a 101W satellite? When I run signal strength using the slimline I get 32 transponders on sat 101, all but two of them have 95-100 readings. Is this the same satellite at 101W that I should pick up with the 18" dish? Thanks for the help,

D12 was the last MPEG-2 non-DVR DirecTV made. Was SWM-compatible so could be used on same coax as newer setups (like Genies which are SWM-only) even if it didn't get the HD and Whole Home DVR services, Lot of people kept it for the RV, vacation cabin, etc. that was still on the older setup.
The MPEG-2 shutdown isn't across the board yet. Started April 2019 and was supposed to be done, but they had some internal challenges. And of course the pandemic hit delaying it further as a result.
Supposedly a "popular" selection of channels will be kept on the 101 sat, but more info is still to come out. Other users more experienced with the transponder/sat settings should pop on eventually to answer your other questions.

I hooked up my HR24 to the 18" dish on a temp pole in the yard. Everything came in fine in SD. With the HR24 set for an 18" dish and multiswitch I put it in the coach and turned on the King Quest. It had a direct line of sight to 101W, the coach is right next to my temp pole. The King searched but couldn't find a signal. I could hear the motor turning inside the unit. So I think it's safe to assume there is something wrong with the King Quest. I'll have to deal with their cust service. I then put the HR 24 back in the house, it ran its setup and all the HD channels were back.. If King gives me a hard time I might just put a short pole in a 5-gallon bucket of concrete and use that for a "portable" dish for the coach!

There is only one 101 sat position. All DTV is doing is changing from transmitting MPEG2 to transmitting MPEG4 from the 101 there is no way to know if the programing will be in SD/HD
