HR24-200s not recognizing external hard drive

I have an HR24-200 that I attached an external hard drive to and it works great. I want to do it to one of my other HR24s. I have the exact same components that I used before and everything is tested and working. The problem is I've tried attaching the EHD to three separate HR24s and none of them are recognizing the drive. It's as if the eSata port on all three has failed which I know can't be happening. The kicker is when I attach it to the HR that already has an EHD, it works! So I know it's not a problem with the EHD.

Have the Sata ports been turned off by some software update I don't know about? Is there something I need to do to turn them on? I've tried refreshing the units and no change. I'm out of ideas. The drive is a 2TB in an eSata enclosure. I have also tried a 1TB drive with the same result - Nothing.

Sounds like you have a drive that is compatible. External eSATA (preferably with fan enclosure) and regular HDDVRs support up to 2 TB external.

With switching the drive to another DVR you must reformat it. Recordings are encrypted to the specific DVR. Usually you unplug power from the new DVR, connect HDD and power it on and then after allowing it to boot then turn on the DVR. New recordings will overwrite the old ones. If that doesn't work, connect to a computer and reformat the HDD. Then try the steps again for the DVR. Some cases it just needs have formatting cleared first.

Hi.... yeah, tried that and no dice. I reformatted both the 1TB and 2TB drives and they were both ignored by multiple DVRs.

This is really driving my batty because the last time I did this a couple of years ago I assembled my EHD, plugged it in and it worked like a charm on the first try. It's chugging along fine to this day. None of the other ones want to play nice.

I've tried them on four separate DVRs now and nothing works. Both drives work fine when connected to a computer. Like I said, it's as if the SATA ports on the DVRs have been turned off. Yet the one that's working still works.

Hmm, well external drives are still supported by boxes that have an eSATA port (Genie Lite H44 and the revised version of the 3rd gen Genie HR54R1 don't have them). The only concern is the ports haven't been very durable so they do wear out. So the ports shouldn't be deactivated, but it would also be odd if multiple boxes eSATA ports went out at the same time. Other than a master clear of the HDDVR itself, putting it back to factory settings, I don't have another suggestion. Sorry.
