HR54 Install and setup
Hello,
Can I install and setup an HR54 box and 2- C61k clients without a professional installer? ( I just wanted to do it myself ) I have an old HR24 and 2- HR22's. The new equipment will be used on 1- 4K TV and 2- HD TV's.

Do you have a SWM dish if so then you would have to lease the HR54 and C61Ks from a third party online dealer like weaknees.com or solid signal at the full upfront lease fee and a 2 yr contact.

If you have swm dish they might send you the new equipment. It will require a new contract.

DirecTV does not drop-ship a 4K install. That is tech install only.
However, the order you have asked about would be a downgrade to your current setup.
HR24 and two HR22s have 6 tuners between them. Each has their own hard drive (500GB each/total 1.5TB)
HR54 is 5 tuners and 1TB. The Mini Genie Clients (C61K) have no tuners or recording space of their own. So you lose both tuners and recording space while putting all eggs in one basket. And DirecTV will not install a C61K on a non-4K TV.
There is a better suggestion if you want to use the couple 4K channels (and access to some 4K PPVs). Replace the HR22s only as regular HDDVRs (HR20 thru HR24) work with the Genie. A 4K upgrade would replace one HR22 with the HR54 and the other with a C61K (on the 4K TV itself). That way you don't reduce overall recording space, increase a tuner, and not relying on one box for the entire setup.
(For a 4K setup, that TV must support HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0, 60 FPS, and TV there for required tech install.)
Alternatively you could replace just one of the HR22s for the Genie. That way you have 9 tuners and 2TB recording space overall. More capability even though you don't have access to the limited 4K content. Plus less existing recordings to lose.
With either upgrade option, make sure to catch up on recordings for any box to be replaced as they do not transfer.
