I AM NOT RECEIVING CLOSE CAPTIONING ON TCM STANDARD DEFINITION

STARTING LAST WEEKEND, I AM NOT RECEIVING CLOSE CAPTIONING ON TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES STANDARD DEFINITION. I HAVE CC ON TCM HIGH DEFINITION AND ON THE OTHER SD CHANNELS I HAVE CHECKED - APPEARS TO BE LIMITED TO ONLY TCM STANDARD DEFINITION ON BOTH OF MY RECEIVERS. NOT SURE IF THE PROBLEM IS WITH DIRECTV OR TCM.

Hey @keywoods, let's get this closed captioning issue taken care of

I would start with basic troubleshooting on the DirecTV DVR receiver, the following steps can walk you through it.

  • To reset the receiver you can either unplug it from power for 15 seconds or press and hold the red reset button located near the access card. It can be a quick fix in most circumstances. If you have a guide issue or missing channels, refreshing your service may resolve this.
  • Verify all connections (wall to the receiver, receiver to TV) are placed firmly into the device.

If you are still having issues with your closed captioning on SD TCM programming you can email our closed captioning team at

closedcaptioning@att.com, they will definitely be able to assist.

Let us know if this helps.

These comments were interesting but proved not useful.  Since the problem was on only one (standard definition) channel, the connections or resetting the receiver made no change.  The problem most likely was at Turner Classic Movies and is now (apparently) resolved.

Glad the issue is resolved. There are issues that could affect some channels and not others, SD vs HD channels, or even just a single channel. So checking connections and resetting are still basic troubleshooting steps as they can fix many issues.

Also be aware that DirecTV is in the process of shutting down the outdated MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. So be prepared that SD versions of channels may be on borrowed time at this point.

DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 SD channels so TMC may not be sending CC on their SD feed.
