Scam. They can’t detect low signal as satellite transmitting is only one-way. Are you actually experiencing any sort of low satellite signal anyway? What are the receiver models? What email sender was this?

Thanks, no I'm having no issues and the signal strengths are good.

No problem. That definitely seems like a scam because as stated before satellite transmitting only occurs one-way.

Either way, satellite dish alignment without the Protection Plan is the standard $99 charge anyway.

Sounds like they are fishing for marks to scam.  As stated DTV has no way to now if your receiver is in use or even connected to the dish nor what kind of signal you are getting.

Interesting, DirecTV now has a thread informing people against fraud concerns. Haven't read over it completely yet.

@detuch254 @Juniper Why do you say it’s a scam when they are offering a “complimentary service visit”. Of course someone on site can detect what signal strength they are receiving. It may well be a scam but saying so because “They can’t detect low signal as satellite transmitting is only one-way” doesn’t apply since it would supposedly be an on site technician. They aren’t offering to detect a low signal remotely. If it is a scam, the scam will come when scheduling the appointment.

@sandblaster

I say it is a scam because it was an email sent. Satellite transmission being one-way means they could not detect a user having a low-signal issue. That would be something to detect on-site where they go over the issue with you at that time. I would be very suspicious on where that link in the email sends you to "schedule".

So since DirecTV cannot remotely detect a signal issue (as they claimed they did in the email per their "system" doing the detection), that is the huge red flag in the email.

They are looking for people to respond to it so they will  contact them again with something else like they are moving the sats and you have to pay for a software upgrade when the truth is DTV can't move the sats and if they did all that is needed is to realign all 10 million dishes and you don't pay for software upgrades.

It's a scam because DirecTV doesn't notify people like that.
