MRV-Access DVR listings from HD-DVR to HD receiver

IF you have a HD-DVR say in the family room with a bunch of tv shows recorded and you start to watch one and stop. It gives you the option to resume that show. If you go to the basement and use you HD recevier that is connected to the network also to access the DVR list on the family room HD-DVR it shows that same show with resume... I think it should only show resume on the box that originallly watched it.... The basement box should see the show only related to itself.... I hope this makes sense... Please let me know...

Also, is their any limit on how many boxes can be connected? Also, how many boxes can access the same show at one time(bedroom1 and bedroom 2 trying to watch the same show at the same time?)

Thanks,

Rob

I disagree. I find it very useful to continue watching a show in the bedroom that I didn't finish watching in the family room.

I don't know if there's any upper limit on the total number of networked DVRs/Receivers.

Only one box can view another DVR's recordings at one time. Other boxes will see a "No Entry" symbol to show that they can't access recordings from the busy DVR. So in your example, only Bedroom1 or Bedroom2 can watch the Family Room's recordings at one time.

Watching one show and to finihs it in another room is good, but suppose someone elese in another room wants to watch it and starts watching it before you get back to it??? I think ther should be a way to access perosnal viewing of some king.....

Any hope of more than one hd box to access the main dvr at one time... I think this will be a problem for families with multiple viewers....

Thanks,

Rob

FORGOT!

Also, can two or more HD Receivers record back to one HD-DVR? I know you can press the record button on the HD receiver, didn't know if other Hd receivers can do it also at the same time....

Thansk Alot!!

I wouldn't hold my breath for HD DVRs to stream video to more than one Receiver/DVR at a time. I don't think they have the processing or networking horsepower for more than one stream.

Each HD Receiver can set up recordings on the networked DVR(s). Of course, the DVR only has two tuners, so it can't record more than two different channels simultaneously.

As to your original point, if someone else wishes to watch the recording they have the option to start over as opposed to resume.

the question is, how are they networked? are they using the internet connection between the boxes or do I have to bounce them off the router? or USB together? or HOW are they NETWORKED, no answers yet,, Help as I have the new DVR and H23 boxes and a wireless network, but not connected to the DVR yet, need a long long cable or wireless gamepoint when I gat some extra $.

Any advice thanks..

You are joining the boxes through a router. The software will automatically be installed in your receiver when you receive the finalized update so your receivers can detect each other. By being connected to the internet Directv will know which receivers will belong to you.

Plus you may connect as many DVRS to the network also as you may desire.

They will not be able to join each other through the USB input only through the Ethernet cable. You will either have to purchase a wireless Ethernet bridge like this one here: http://johncardell.com/ethernet-bridge

Or you must run an Ethernet cable to every receiver which is what I have done. People say the Ethernet Bridge through the electrical lines is better than the wireless version, I have no input on this because I haven't owned either one.

If you read the sticky post at the top of this forum, you'll see that DirecTV is strongly recommending against investing in network hardware (wired or wireless) if your equipment is not already networked. They're currently pilot testing their new DECA network which will use existing satellite cables to network your receivers and that will be the only networking method supported when the MRV beta testing ends (probably in another few weeks).

So the ethernet port is only going to be used for on demand?

Except for the H24/HR24 that have built-in DECA networking, the ethernet port will be used to connect the external DECA devices. Essentially the satellite coax cables runs through the DECA module with a short ethernet cable connected between the DECA module and the HD Receiver/DVR ethernet port.

Actually, except for the new H/HR24 series receivers which have DECA built-in, DECA uses the Ethernet connection to connect the receiver to the coax network and a separate DECA adapter connects the DECA network to your router, providing internet access for all of your receivers for OnDemand and other network services. You won't need any network connection to the receivers other than the satellite cables.

Sounds good but I have two DVRS in separate rooms. Will the 2nd dvr be able to hook straight up through the router or will that go through the DECA box also?

The beauty of DECA is that your DVRs and Receivers network together using only the satellite coax cable. So no connection to your router is needed with that 2nd DVR.

All of the receivers will connect to the coax via DECA devices and there will be a separate DECA device to connect the coax to the router. There are some diagrams and a review by some of the people who tested DECA here:
