Multi receiver remote control challenge
First of all, BIG thanks to this community for helping me with a multiple HR54 installation. It worked perfectly! But now the customer has changed what they want, big surprise. I have 5 receivers (HR54) and 4 way screen splitter inside of a single cabinet. Originally the receivers feeding the screen spitter were to permanently set to one channel on each and the 5 receiver was to be utilized as a normally operating DTV setup. I set the 5th box remote control to RF and all was good. Now they want the ability to change the channels on the other 4 receivers. Without telling them use 6 different remotes (4 RF and 1 IR plus the screen splitter for audio toggling) I'm looking at the Harmony Pro 2400 universal remote which can send the IR signal to a transmitter taped over the IR receiver on the IRD. But since it doesn't use RF my question is can I program that remote control to 5 different IRDS using IR?

You might be able to label each HR54 with a different device name in the harmony but I don't have one so can't check. You could also use an IP remote app because each HR54 would have a different IP address, and control them all from one tablet. This is the way many people in bars etc control multiple receivers.
Directv has a tablet app that does this https://www.att.com/support/smallbusiness/article/smb-directv/KM1215424/
There are others that appear to offer the same functionality.

One account allowed multiple HR54s? Wow, that is unheard of. Only one Genie (i.e. HR54) is supposed to be activatable on a single account.
Glad it turned on and if continues to work that is an awesome setup.

I wonder if those are actually HR24s (perhaps with a single HR54 in the mix) or an MDU setup with each HR54 on a different account.
If a single account with HR54s, the concern is there will be issues as they are not intended to have multiple Genie (the server) working together. They tried just 2 in testing days (before full launch of original HR34), but they had issues so they went forward with a single Genie per account and cabling.

I was involved in the multi-genie testing. At one stage I had four genie servers HR44, H44 and HR54 running in a single system with multiple clients. Managing it was a nightmare, because the clients moved around between servers.

You had four 2nd generation Genie (HR44), Genie Lite (H44), and the 3rd generation (HR54)? Wow, thought multi Genie testing ended with the HR34.
If they could get multiple Genies (HR44, HR54 at this point) working with each other if you had no Clients, then that would be wonderful to see. That would alleviate my concerns with their equipment direction going forward. I have a HR44 and two HR24s in my current setup (no longer allowed to use my R22s as backups since reactivating boxes is a thing of the past).

Question: can multiple genies work with each other if there are no clients? Answer: Yes, unless Directv has done something to prevent it since I was involved in the testing. But Directv made a decision not to allow this probably because of the chaos if someone tried to introduce a client to the mix.

Still a lot of research to do including the info you guys have provided. But I thought I’d post this up to answer a few questions. I made this video for my techs who had to relocate the system to its permanent location while I was on vacation. This is the setup, Slimline5 to SWM30 and two splitters.
