No audio on any channel
We came home to a tv with no sound. It was working when we left, but not when we came home. No one but dogs home while we were gone. It works for watching movies off the DVD player, but the direct tv has no audio whatsover. We have done every reset we know how to do, unplug cords, change cords, and nothing has worked. Any idea what could be causing the problem?

How is the HR22's audio output connected to your TV? Or is it connected to a Surround Sound Receiver? How?
Have you tried resetting the HR22 using the red button behind the front panel access card door?

It is connected with an HDMI cable into the TV. We have reset the box in every way possible. Red button, reset in setup, unplug the box. We even left it off all night last night to see if that would help. Nothing. We tried a different HDMI cable to see if that would work and it doesn't. We are able to watch DVD's and the sound works, but nothing through the box.

I forgot to add we also have Monster cables that run from the TV into the VCR. Not sure if that matters or not.

In the HR22's Audio Setup Menu, try both settings of the "Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio" setting. TV's can't process DD5.1 audio, so usually the best setting here if OFF.

Have you tried resetting the TV? Pull its AC power for several minutes, then repower.

I think i have the wrong brand listed too. I think this is just a Direct tv box. The RCA box we have is in another room. Sorry. Also, we have three other boxes in the house and none of them are having a problem. Just this one. Other boxes are one standrd, one HD, and one standard with DVR.

Try swapping this "bad" Receiver with one of your good Receivers. If the problem stays with the "bad" Receiver, you can be pretty sure it's defective. If the problem stays in its room, then something is wrong with the TV in that room. Let us know what you find.

Is this possibly a burned out HDMI connector on the DTV receiver or on the TV ? Can they hook up component cables to see if that works ?
Maybe. That's why I suggested swapping this "bad" box with a good box. If the problem stays with the "bad" box, then one workaround might be using the Component Video and audio outputs instead of HDMI. Or replacing the box.

We actually tried the component cables again and it now works, just with poor picture quality compared to the HDMI cable. We will try the other box and see what happens and let you know. Probably wont get to it until tomorrow. Thanks for all the help

there should be no loss of picture quality using component cables Vs HDMI cables as booth are capable of displaying an HD picture.

Note that there's a difference between COMPONENT Video (red, blue, green RCA cables) and COMPOSITE Video (yellow RCA). Component Video should look identical to your HDMI HD video. Composite Video is only 480i SD though.
