NO HD

So I have been having this problem where my HD DVR will not output a picture when I set the res to 720p or 108i. When I set it to a lower res I can get a picture but it will completely go black and then show a picture again every minute or so. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? I have never had any problems before so I am completely lost.

how are you connecting your receiver to your TV?  have you tried using other cables.

I am using Monster 1000 series HDMI. I have tried my other HDMI and they do the same thing. I should not have to downgrade to component cables losing my digital feed.

Do you have any other video sources with an HDMI output, like a DVD player?  The problem is either with your TV's HDMI INPUT, or the DVR's HDMI OUTPUT.  The trick is figuring out which.  Temporarily trying the Component Video cables is a simple test to help determine if it's the DVR's outputs that are defective.

I'm not sure what you're doing, but you should not need to "set the resolution", that should be hands off automatic.  Go to menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> HDTV -> TV Resolutions -> take the mark off all except the 1080i resolution.  Then in the same menu under video -> set native to off.

After that do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR.  You'll not have to mess with the format or resolution any more, it will feed a HD signal to your TV full time.  If you still have problems post back because your problem likely doesn't involve resolution.

I have a gaming system and a blu ray player hooked up and none of them do it so I am thinking it is the output.

Did you try the DVR's Component Video outputs as a test?

The troubleshooting process works best when you state the problem, the folks here suggest possible tests or corrections, you try at least some of those and report back the results.  Apparently you haven't tried the component cables or reset your resolution settings and thus far have simply conversed.  That's your choice of course, but if you're convinced the output is bad we can't fix that and I'd suggest you call Directv and arrange a service tech.

I am sorry. I should have explained myself better. I am a service tech at an electronics store so I have tried multiple HDMI cables and reset the box multiple times. I have not tried the component cables because even if that works that still means that my HDMI output is not working correctly as I already tested the output with a known good cable.

Not necessarily.  But sounds like you've got it all figured out.
