Programming remote to work the receiver from a second television
When I originally had my system set up the installer programmed a television in my kitchen to control the receiver. I have the box in my living room and an extra television in the kitchen for the cook to watch the same thing that is shown in the living room. He was able to set up the remote control to change the box from the kitchen as well as in the living room.
During a modification to this new menu I wound up clearing something that allowed the control from the kitchen television. Is it possible for someone to tell me what I need to do to re-establish that link?
Thank you,
Leonard

It sounds like your receiver was setup to use a RF remote (RF remote controls have the letter "R" after the model number on the top left corner). Assuming you're using the same RF remote control, go into Menu/Settings & Help/Settings/Remote Control/IR-RF Setupand follow the instructions on-screen.

Thank you...
I was wondering if it needed to be set up as an RF signal but was concerned if I switched it to RF I might lose all control of being able to switch it back if I was wrong. Let me know if that would be a possible problem if you could please. If I don't see another reply I will go ahead and give it a try.
Thanks again,
Leonard

if you get it wrong, you can always go back to IR using the front panel buttons. give it a try

Hello,
Thanks for the help so far but I still can not seem to get the settings back to where the original technician had the control box of Direct TV to also operate through the extended television in the kitchen.
The model # of the control box is HR24-200, the remote # is RC65RX, and the television he had routed the signal through in the kitchen is a Philips / Magnavox #PR1335B101.
I switched the signal over to RF rather then IR but nothing would work in that setting. I did have to manually restore the system to IR in order to get the remote to work again. Thanks peds48 for that piece of advice as I did need to switch back.
Any other thoughts or suggestions out there? I know it worked before I reset the system to its original state by the factory, so the technician did do something to allow access to the control box by using the remote at the TV in the kitchen. It must be something basic but what?

Besides switching the receiver to RF mode, did you also program the remote? The procedure must be followed EXACTLY or the remote won't work. The procedure is:
1. Make sure remote slide switch is on DTV
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT (the green lights will blink twice)
3. enter 9 6 1
4. press CH UP
5. enter the last 6 digits of the receiver ID #, found on a sticker in the access card compartment.
6. press SELECT (the green lights will blink twice)
If the last 6 digits of the receiver ID# are entered incorrectly the remote won't work and the setup procedure will have to be repeated
