Reactivating old receiver.

We have the home and RV package that we have had for 10 years.  Last time I turned one of the old receivers on, in the RV, I was charged a fee.  Why is that all of a sudden, it was never that way for 9 years.  Also, we are getting ready to go camping and need to turn a box on again, will I be charged again?  And does it matter how long we use it before shutting off again, like when we return home?

The new RC1 account system will not activated a deactivated receiver as it is supposed to have been returned or recycled if non returnable.  If it is an SD only receiver it is now obsolete as DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 channels.

There was no charge to reactivate a box. However, you paid $7 monthly for each authorized TV on the account (whether by box or not).

However, DirecTV's new account system doesn't allow reactivation of boxes anymore. Now when boxes are deactivated they are returned or recycled if too old, as they did away with owned options years ago. Also if that RV box was MPEG-2/SD-only, it is obsolete. They have been shutting down those old feeds, and so we all need MPEG-4 boxes and receiving dishes going forward.

Like I said I have had the RV and home package since 2010 and it will continue to work, or there will be a Dish box in the RV.

If that box is MPEG-2/SD-only it must be replaced as they are not keeping the old feeds. Sorry but providers are not going to keep supporting outdated technology.

Well no one knew what they were talking about.  Box is all activated, won't listen here again.

We do know what were are talking about. Just because you got some special one-time exception does not change that.

DirecTV has been shutting down the MPEG-2/SD-only feeds since April 2019. The shutdown had a delay, but was supposed to complete this year (Covid-19 might affect that). So many people already can no longer use those boxes. Non-HD TVs haven't been made in about a decade, so that old format is on the way out. Tech moves forward.

DirecTV was migrating all of us to their new integrated billing account system last year known as RC1. It is not supposed to allow reactivation of boxes. When deactivated you return because it is leased or recycle because it is too old. Owned boxes have not been an option for many years. They discontinued the option upon launch of the 1st Genie (HR34).

Either you got a special one-time exception to reactivate the box or they haven't finished the account integration and you are in the old system. Either way, do not expect them to do it again. And if it is a MPEG-2 box, a old model with H in the model number, then be prepared for it to eventually no longer be useable.

The legacy direcTV system (rio3) still allows reactivation. It's the new ATT billing system that doesn't (or the agents don't know how to do it in the rc1 system) not  all accounts have been migrated to the new system. Personally I don't think ATT should have ever touched the legacy system.
