Storage device problem

My direct tv is saying a problem has been detected in my storage device and that its scanning to try and fix it.  It has run twice with a final error of 15-227.  I have rebooted the receiver and refreshed it several times, still the same error.  It is scanning the disk now for the third time, I suspect it will fail as well.  Is the "storage disc" the location of the saved TV shows or, some other internal disc used to run the receiver?

Thanks for your time.

That is the hard drive. DVRs are dependent on it. Time to call DirecTV for a warranty replacement. Plan for $19.95 delivery (or covered if you have their optional equipment protection plan).

What are the models of each box you have and which one is the problem one? Sometimes they might offer an alternative, but depends on your setup which way is the best way to go.

I only have one receiver I think it's the H20, HD-DVR.  I'd like to upgrade if there is a newer version.  This one is 4-5 years old.

You will get an HR24 the last receiver made before they went to the Genie if there are any left in stock.

Recheck the model number. H20 is not a HDDVR and should be well more than 5 years old.

I stand corrected the receiver is an HR-24.  It has two coax antenna "IN" cables.  They each have a small what I think are IF circuits.  I'll call Direct tomorrow and do battle with them.  I do have the maintenance plan.

Sounds like you have a legacy system with BBCs you will need to reuse them.

HR24 is the most recent regular HDDVR. A warranty replacement is all you need. Normally that is $19.95 delivery, but if you have the Equipment Protection Plan than it is covered. Though at $8.99 a month you pay more for that in the long run than the rare delivery or service call.

The upgrade to an HR24 would be the Genie Advanced Whole Home HDDVR (5 tuners and 1TB hard drive). Would be 2nd or 3rd generation (HR44 or HR54/HR54R1 depending on stock). But for a single TV home it is not suggested. You would raise your bill by $3, mainly for the Whole Home DVR service that you cannot use as that is for sharing the recordings between multiple DVRs.

So warranty replace and do not upgrade to the Genie. Definitely stay away from the Genie-2 (HS17) for the same reason, plus unfriendly design.
