There's a problem communicating with the satellite dish (775) code HR44 Genie

I purchased a new Web os tv and swapped the input cables from the old tv to the new tv. Now I get the error "There's a problem communicating with the satellite dish (775)". I've runs tests and it says it can't connect to SWM. I've changed HDMI cables, unplugged the SWM for 2 minutes, and nothing changes. I can't get a satellite signal.

I plug everything back into the old tv and everything works fine! The older TV is just a regular 16x9 flat screen, and about 12 years old. The new tv is an LG UHD webOS Model 65UN69 TV, that supports 4k. The Directv cable box is HR44 Genie with 2 minis.

Would anyone know why the box works fine on the older tv, and not the new tv? Would I need a new SWM, because it can't support this new tv?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Steve

The "SWM" it's referring to is most likely the power supply for the satellite dish. Did you by chance unplug the SWM Power Supply when moving things around? You'll get that error message if the dish isn't getting power. Also, if there's a satellite coax cable splitter behind your TV, be sure that the SWM Power Inserter is connected to the "Power Passing" port on the SWM splitter.

Like I was saying previously, I've checked all of the cables, even swapped a few HDMI cables, but nothing changes, including unplugging the SWM box. Still nothing.

When I unplug from the new tv to the old tv, everything works perfectly! It's not the cables, as I've checked them, unplugged them (SWM included), restarted the received, and even replaced the cables. The normal setup does not work on the new tv... but when unplugging everything from the new tv, back into the old tv there are no issues.

The new tv has nothing to do with this error message, make sure the cable coming from the dish into this room is connected to the "power to swm" and the genie is connected to "signal to ird" port of the power inserter

Once again, the exact setup from new to old, works perfect on old tv. swapping the identical cables back into the new tv fails to get a signal.

Swapping TVs should have no effect on the satellite dish or its SWM Power Inserter. There must be something else going on, especially if it still works fine when you reconnect the old TV.

It's a long shot, but I suppose this could be some sort of grounding or ground loop issue that's messing up the SWM Power Inserter providing power to the dish.

So the one thing that I saw online when I thought about buying a new SWM box, is that some of these SWM boxes support 4K. The HR44 and installation done 12-14 years ago, was on the old tv. I'm not sure they had 4k back then. That's why I thought it could need an upgrade to support the new 4k smart tv.

The "SWM box" has nothing to do with the TV's ability to receive DirecTV's 4K channels. That requires an HR54 or HS17 Genie DVR with a C61K 4K Mini Genie box. The SWM (stands for Single Wire Multiswitch) simply provides power to the dish.

If you're trying to get DirecTV 4K channels, you'll need to upgrade that HR44 to an HR54 + C61K Genie Mini Client box.

OK litzdog911, I just don't understand why everything works on the old tv, and nothing on the new tv.

Sorry I can't offer more help. It really doesn't make sense to me, either. If all of the cable connections are the same, and you're simply swapping the HR44's HDMI cable from the old TV to the new TV, then it should work. As I said, you might have some sort of unusual electrical grounding issue affected by the new TV. How old is your home/apartment? Perhaps try plugging the TV and/or SWM Power Inserter into a different AC outlet? Grasping at straws here.

I can give that a try. I'm glad you're seeing what I'm saying. It makes absolutely no since. I've swapped them back and forth repeatedly 5-6 times, with different cables, the same cables, some same some different, and keep getting the exact same results. The new tv can't find the satellite signal, and the old tv always does and works perfectly! I'll try unplugging both at the same time, wait a couple of minutes and try again.

I think the only thing left is possibly the new tv has a bad circuit board or something defective in it. :(

4K wouldn't have anything to do with it. If it is going to 775 by just moving the hdmi cable over to the new TV it's a very unusual situation. I am curious, does one TV have a two-prong electrical plug in and one TV three prong by any chance?

I just now unplugged the HDMI cable only (nothing else) from the non-working new tv, and straight into the old tv, without turning anything off. The HR44 did a rebuilding process and I have all channels working flawlessly.

You can attempt to plug the new TV in via composite cables to see if that makes a difference. Also, if you have another TV, try testing it with the HR44 receiver to be sure the issue somehow resides with the new TV.

To be honest, this whole scenario seems made up. The only thing I can add to this is pressing the red reset button on the HR54 with the new TV plugged in and error 775 showing.
