TV/Cable not hd

Both are HD.  I am using a HDMI cable from the H24 reciever to tv.  Has been going on for a week,  I called tech support and got no help.  Said they were aware of problem and would be fixed in a couple of days.  So far no fix.  When will a fix be available?

Need more details.  What is the exact problem you're having?  What's not working properly?

Unfortunately, telling you a fix is in the works is often CSR-speak for "I don't know how to fix your problem and I need to get onto the next call". As litzdog says, post back with the information.

Whenever I try to change channels or change volume the TV or Cable is not HD comes up for about one minute.  I cannot select the guide or menu.  Neither will come up.  If I press exit and put it into standard receive mode, all will work without the warning.  Channels will change after the warning goes off on HD, but no guide or menu functions.

I'm guessing that you recently got the new HiDef User Interface software update.

So you have one HD Receiver connected to two TVs, is that right?

What H24 Video OUT is connected to each TV Video INPUT?

I have only one tv hooked up to the HD receiver.  The only tv is connected by HDMI.  I do have the HD reciever connected to a DVR that has both SD and HD tuners.  It is connected by a red/white/yellow cable.  When the warning about tv/cable not being HD, it also says to hit the exit button until SD is turned on.  When it hold the exit button, the SD comes on. Then the guide and menu will work.  But if I hit exit to reset to HD then the warning comes back up.

OK, now I understand.  So it's the video connection to the DVD/VCR that has this "warning".  You can fix this by getting a "Component-to-Composite video adapter".  Connect the HD Receiver's Component Video OUT to the adapters Component Video IN, then connect the adapter's Composite (yellow RCA) OUT to your DVD/VCR Video IN.   This way you don't have to change the DirecTV Receiver's video resolution and the menus will always be available via the DVD/VCR.

You can find reasonable prices video converters at places like http://www.monoprice.com for about $40.

On two of my HD dvr's, I  have a high definition tv connected via component out and a standard tv connected to the composite out. The purpose is for my wife and me to be able to watch the same picture in two different rooms. Thanks to the new software upgrade, any menu selection on the hd set brings up the annoying, screen blocking warning on the standard set. Plus  you can no longer use the menu on that set.

Was that the intent, to force us to rent more boxes? Even though all we're doing is watching the same signal on two different tv's?  I suppose this is a rhetorical question, it obviously is, because no one could consider this anything other than a negative to the consumer. The old system worked great.  I already have four HD dvr's, but apparently that isn't enough for Directv.  This is a bummer.

No, it is purely a technical issue. The graphics chip in the DVRs can't produce a hi-resolution  GUI (for the HD output) and a lower-resolution  GUI (for the SD output) at the same time - previous GUIs have been low-resolution on both outputs. There are related performance issues also.  Many people have been asking for the GUI to be updated to hi-resolution and this is an unfortunate side-effect. As we've posted, you can solve the problem by getting component-to-composite converters(monoprice ,$40) and connecting them between the DVRs and the modulators you are using.

Remember we are not DirecTV, we're all here as users and can only give you information about why this is happening, we can't fix it. But I don't think DirecTV realised there were so many people using the two outputs simultaneously on the receivers.

Thanks for the answer, texasbrit. If it really is a technical issue, that makes me feel better toward Directv.

At any rate, I can't use that option because I"m already using the component out jacks. Do you know what you get if you use s-video out rather than composite?

Also, the big black banner's screen time should be drastically reduced in the future.  I think we can get the message a little faster than they give us credit for.

SVideo is also SD and will have the same issue.  But you could get an "HDMI-to-Composite video converter".

DIRECTV does not support the use of one receiver to provide

service to multiple locations. This does not mean they  prevent it or limit the

functionality, they  simply do not support it and as such our feature and function

changes do not take these use cases into consideration. In this case, you will

need to use the EXIT button to reset the resolution when you return to the SD

television.

did you tried the workaround as stated in post # 7

That's exactly what it means. They don't "prevent" it, but what do you call putting up a huge banner that blocks over half  the screen for 15-20 seconds every time you touch the remote? That certainly does "limit the functionality".  Good grief, what a condescinding response.   And, no, I have not tried a workaround, I'm not interested in spending any money to work around an arbitrarily imposed, unnecessary roadblock thrown at me in what I consider an arrogant and high handed fashion. This, along with the annual price increases, is the straw that broke the camel's back, as far as I'm concerned. What I'm trying, after thirteen years with directv,  is cable.

funny you chose to quote the part that fit you best, but quickly past the one that describes you problem. "DIRECTV does not support the use of one receiver to provide service to multiple locations.  anything beyond this, is consider a "jury-rigged" system.  and once you have a jury-rigged system, you MUST make it work at your own expense.
