Viewing Content on Genie DVR
We are getting ready to move into out new home and the only TV service available to us is DirecTV. I used to be a DTV customer for many years but finally cut them loose a few years ago because they raised the prices beyond what I was willing to pay. If we get DTV and a Genie HD DVR, is the only way to watch the content (Live or Recorded) on another TV is to get a Mini for the TV? Is there not a Fire Stick app that can be used to consume content we have access to with our service? I don't mind the Mini's but I do mind the perpetual, never ending cost of paying for them. Cable companies have gotten away from having to have one of their boxes to get the content you pay for...they have apps now for Roku and Fire Stick.

No, you can not watch any live or recorded content through a firestick because there is no Directv app for a firestick. There is no Directv app for any streaming device. The Directv app is only for phones and tablets. You need a genie client. You can use your Directv credentials for the various network apps on a firestick.

To watch content on another TV it needs a box, be that a Mini Genie Client, or a full HD or HDDVR receiver. Intro offer will usually include equipment for up to 4 TVs, which would be Genie and up to 3 Mini Genie Clients.
The $7 is not paying for the box itself, but for the authorized TV. Cost is same if you have a Client, full receiver, or even use a TV with a built in RVU client. Even leased or the old owned option makes no difference. You want service on the TV, then you pay for it.
Because you pay for each TV, DirecTV's app is not available on Firestick or any other media streaming device. Even the mobile devices (smart phone/tablet) block video if you try to cast/airplay/stream to a TV.
However, some individual channels have apps that can go on media streaming devices, which authorize by your current provider. So there is a way to get some content, just not all. DirecTV is designed for TV viewing on home through their satellites, with any internet connected options being secondary.
Cable companies have streaming apps because those same companies provide internet service through their cable. DirecTV is not an internet provider so is not setup for full streaming.
