What Has Happened To the AT&T Message Board Forums, Interface Needs Reform

@ATTTimCS

1. This system is messed up, I see a thread with over 50 responses, multiple pages, two new posts in the past two hours, I go to the last page of the thread and the posts are from over a month ago, where are the new posts or comments as they are now called, buried somewhere but difficult to find.

Can the moderators that run this board develop a more cohesive system, or was this designed by AT&T to frustrate subscribers efforts to get issues solved and have ATT/Directv address our concerns.

Update: It seems that the new comments might be on the first page, attached to the original post or the original ATT response, I don't know and I'm unsure if they always appear on the first page, seriously this board is designed to bury information, not make it easily followed.

Honestly, did ATT get upset over the infamous Attrocious Disaster (spelled wrong) thread with its 500,000 views and responses in the thousands, I think they eliminated the ability to have a long running thread of complaints where you could easily find the new posts or comments, maybe an ATT/Directv complaint Twitter page needs to be started.

Update:

OK, I just posted this question/thread, where is it, not appearing in the main drop down list, so new threads, how do I find them, I see another thread created at 11am complaining about the new forum interface, where is it, I could only find it by searching for the keyword forum and then clicking latest results.

So is it that we have no ability to see what the latest issues and problems are, how can we if we can't immediately see new threads/questions posted. Thanks for your time and help.

Update II: It now appears the new questions/threads are appearing at the top of the list but the other problems are still an issue. Also that epic Attrocious Disaster has been broken apart, now all I see is individual posts floating everywhere.

I agree that date/time stamp is not communicating with how recent (updated) the reply is. It will say updated "yesterday" or "54 minutes ago" and the post is from several months ago, or older.

I also miss a latest topic section if you just wanted to review more current threads in general instead of having to browse each category individually.

And it appears the thread design may be more mobile friendly, but makes it a bit condesne or small on a full computer screen.

Perhaps they should have waited for after the holidays to launch the new interface so that they could have people actively working on any intial bugs or improvements instead of too many off on vacation. Just my thoughts.

5 months later, still a mess, one of the reasons I rarely visit anymore, is it by design from ATT to keep the noise levels and complaints down, anyway here is a copy of a post I just made in another thread:

One quick thing, Tim and ATT, we discussed this last year, is there any possible way you can reform this posting system, following threads is way more difficult, on the index page it read that the latest post was made by Nabukl, you scroll to the bottom of the thread and it is not there, you have to search through many different posts to find it, it really creates a barrier to getting informative information out to Directv viewers as I can imagine many people give up, rather than wading through all of the posts to find the one new one.

There is no way to immediately go to the latest post.

Update: OK, you click the date of the latest post and goes to it, that helps but here is where the problem lies, if there were 5 new posts since the last time you checked, you can quickly get to the latest post but you have no ability to find the other four as instead of a unified thread, in which the latest post has the post it is replying to in the body of the post, you have people responding to comments, so within the main thread, it is as if you have numerous sub threads, each comment goes to a specific comment and so on, it is completely off the rails.

In short, this system stinks.

Basically it goes like this

OP: My Directv HR Genie just blew up. Person A replies to my post, now instead of following a normal timeline of responses, if Person B responds to Person A, a sub thread is created, once enough people respond, it is as if you are creating an ever expanding decision tree, branches going off in different directions, in order to follow a busy thread, I would have to read through almost every comment every time I revisit to see if there are new comments attached to each sub thread comment.

It is a jigsaw puzzle that must be solved every single time in order to make sure you are reading every post.

The new Forum software is a disaster. We ACEs are flooding the adminstrators with feedback, including the comments you've raised. They're committed to making things better. We shall see.

Hi @gordongekko99 . I apologize for the delay, as I was out of office. The DTV UI thread should be back in one place again. I apologize for the frustration. As we launch this new platform there may be issues like this, but thank you for letting us know so we could get it resolved.

Thanks

Tim: I have to ask. Did anyone ever test this software before it was inflicted on an unsuspecting public?

Hi @TexasBrit. There was definitely testing done, but as with any launch, there are always going to be unforseen issues unfortunately. We are trying to minimize them as much as possible.

Thanks

since the system won't even let me reply to your reply....

30 minutes of testing would have shown these issues.

Thanks @ATTTimCS , can you or the board moderator also look into why I'm getting email alerts sent to my personal email based on responses to my posts, I had all of these notifications turned off and either they removed the ability to do this or it has ceased to function but I can't find a way to stop this.

Update: OK, suddenly all of the notifications have appeared and they were turned on, I turned them off, hopefully that solves the problem.

Replying to individual posts is not available. Just the main topic or to the 1st reply of a thread. This makes the posts a bit unorganized.

Also only responding to the original post allows you to have space between paragraphs as later responses are shoved together.

Using the @ to mention someone specifically, you must type just about the entire name before the autofill finally suggests it. Would be nice to respond directly to a user instead of scrolling back up to make sure you spelled it correctly (especially with some of the more interesting user names).

At least I hope I am done receiving emails from the "forum bot" that was marking posts as "solutions" going back 2 or 3 years.

Hi @gordongekko99. You can turn them off by going to the Profile Avatar>Profile Settings>Email & Notifications. You should see a list of choice that can be enabled or disabled, like:

  • New posts posted on topics that I follow

  • New badges earned

  • Mentions

Thanks
