What to do with the satellite dish

I have a Direct TV satellite dish that I no longer need. I'm assuming I own it and am seeking advice from DirecTV about its recycling program. If you do not have a recycling program, please refer me to the nearest recycling program. I'm in Reston, VA

You own the dish, the dish is metal so can go to any place that recycles metal the LNB needs to go to an e waste center.

Only the receiver/client boxes are owned by DirecTV. So the dish is yours.

Make sure to leave the mounting plate to avoid leaks. The dish itself goes with metal, but the LNB (the "eye") goes with electronic recycling.

DirecTV's recycling program is only for the boxes themselves if old enough models. An existing dish makes it more likely for a customer to return, or a new homeowner to order new or move exiting service.

@nabukl Feel free to use this anytime.

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

@nabukl I did. This is what I saw via Techwalla, "Recycle Through DirecTV

Before tossing out your dish or taking it to a recycling center, check with DirecTV, Dish or your primary provider on the status of your account. You may not own the dish, in which case you must return it to the provider through a DirecTV dish return. Leasing a satellite dish is common, and the cost is typically incorporated into your monthly bill. If you throw out the dish or send it off to a recycling center, you are liable for the cost of the dish. Always call on the status of your account first. If you own the dish, contact DirecTV or your provider about its recycling program. The company may take back the dish for repurposing. At the least, it can refer you to the nearest recycling program. Scrutiny over the disposal of satellite dishes has led to improved recycling programs and communications from dish service providers."
